Locking up, & Helmets
Thread started by HANDBONE at 07.12.09 - 1:04 am

so yeah. i started wearing a helmet. having post brain trauma issues from a retarded accident.

anyways, i also started using a snap on front wheel to ulock it to my back wheel. im considering getting a krypto-mini, but would it be big enough to lock onto my helmet (giro atmos) two rims and bici frame ? how do you guys lock up your helmets when you don't take them inside with you ?

i think i may start carrying two locks. what am investment. oh well..

Unless it's a 5 minute jaunt into Wal-Greens, I always clip my helmet to my fanny-pack and wear it like a sword.
For those quick insertion-exertions, I just loop it around my bars where I could see it from the checkstand

you can lock the rear wheel and frame if they are close enough together or that and you don't have deep rims. I can't lock my rear rim and frame on my bikes, but I can get both rims locked together, so I do the Sheldon Brown lock method except I don't rely on a cable lock to secure my front wheel.

I just wear my helmet inside wherever I'm going!

It establishes me as a cool bike chick, helps other cool bike people identify me, and since I never wash my hair, it covers that up too!

Wee!!!

it is possible to lock the front wheel using the "sheldon brown method".
you just need to make sure your are at a good pole that will allow you to get the bike real close. it works.
as for the helmet. any strap i can loop into the lock is fine. I often don't bother.

I've had an unsecured helmet just clipped to my bike while it was being ravaged by a gang of pre-pubescent bike thieves.

they just took the helmet off and dropped it on the ground.
a $10 knog was more interesting to them.

I can't imagine somebody stealing or trying to sell a stolen helmet.
they usually stink like sweat and contain the original owners DNA,. plus they make you look like a fucking bike nerd.
haha.
