I'll be misssing Midnight Ridazz for the first time since September '05 because I'll be out of town, in Davis, for this:

http://www.walkbikecalifornia.org/filmfestival.htm

So I thought I'd throw a ride while I'm there:

My girlfriend just moved to Davis and I'm here with her until the 21st when I'm moving to Santa Cruz.
I'm going to need some riding. I'm afraid of going crazy without a few ridezz a month.
I'm fucking stoked!!! My girl and I will definitely be there.

Good to hear that you'll be there; make sure to say hello. I'm hoping to spread a little Ridazz style to Davis. Try to check out the film festival, too.

What's the skinny on the film fest?

Twenty six films on biking (and related issues) over four days, September 11-14, curated by yours truly.

Details here: http://www.walkbikecalifornia.org/filmfestival.htm

I was looking at the website and I didn't see anything on admission prices for the films. What are they going to be?

I believe it's $7 per screening. The Varsity Theatre is a beautiful, clean and comfortable space. It was recently renovated and has all new seating and projection equipment.

More on it here: http://www.thedavisvarsity.com/pages/history.php

Davis is my home town and I'm going up just to do Ridazz. If there is a medal for consuming a bunch of precious energy resources to go ride a bike for two hours, give it to me. No, wait. There are worse offenders.

I'm so excited. Mostly because I'm sure Ridazz will be a completely different animal in Davis. Or maybe it won't be an animal at all. I think that Ridazz in LA is certainly an animal that comes all wild and tawny and furious onto the scene because it's so hard to bike on the street in this town. But in a town like Davis where all bicyclists are raised on a nourishing mixture of nuclear-free toad tunnels and historic potholes, can the wild side of Ridazz truly exist? Or will it be just as hum-drum coombaya as everything else in town. God. I kind of want to move back there.

I'm glad to hear that there's going to be as much L.A. ridazz spirit there as possible. I'm missing it something awful!

A very astute assessment, Alex. I have no idea how Ridazz will go over here.

I just got in a few hours ago; I'm about to bike downtown to do some film fest business. Wish me luck.

Free/low cost ride to Davis Ridazz:

It just occurred to me that someone out there might be interested in joining me one-way or both ways to Davis Ridazz.

Due to an impacted weekend schedule, I'll be heading up to Davis at noon on Friday, and returning at midnight on Friday. I'll only be spending six hours in Davis, but you could have a grand old time if you stay a little longer.

Gas money is not super important as I've already budgeted for this trip.

I will be using the 'bike hanging out of the back of the trunk' method for bike transportation, it's how we do it in Davis. I thought I'd mention that because I've never seen so many people obsess about the possibility of a bike falling out of a trunk as I have in LA.

I'll have room for one or possibly two people and their bikes to join me.

Contact me at alexkenefick@gmail.com if you are interested, or if you are a spam-bot combing the internet for fresh e-mail addresses.

Best Luck Mr Rollers!

It was fun being part of your crew on the sinking paddle battle ship at Echo Park last Sunday.

Enjoy

I've been here a couple of days now; I'm starting to meet a few more of the locals that count and I'm gathering support for Davis Ridazz this Friday.

Visited an amazing outdoor bike co-op today called the Bike Church; totally off the grid, baby! Pics when I get back.

Where is the Bike Church?
The only shop I've found in town that's got some decent people working in it is Ken's.

Here's more info: http://daviswiki.org/bike_church

Keep in mind, it's very lo-tech/do it yourself, but a fascinating place. One of Davis' more hidden secrets.

Yeah, it turned out well; a nice little turnout for a first time Davis Ridazz. Thanks to all that turned out, especially Alex for driving up from L.A. just for the ride. Sorry 'bout your crash, Adam.

We improvised a route on the spot with help from the locals that was better than anything I could have planned. Some of the highlights: riding to the top of the big parking structure & back down, riding around the football stadium, heading out into the country, under the stars, down olive tree lined lanes; riding around on the airport runways; the tiny bike paths of Village Homes.

Finally, a big thanks to the members of the Davis Bike Church for their help in spreading the bike gospel!
