Any other Ridazz in the Victor Valley area??
Thread started by bentstrider at 09.3.07 - 11:40 pm

Not wanting to sound like a bum, but I currently have no vehicle capable of extreme, long-distance transport at this time(save for the company rig which is heavily monitored).
This is a little problem due to these factors:
A)At least a 60-70 mile trip down to where the closest ride may be occuring.
B)Cajon Pass is like the damned Panama Canal with no water.
You could ride a bike up/down the 15, but due to indefinite road closures near the Glen Helen exit due to Suckburb expansion, I'm sorta SOL.
Anywho, just trying to see if any other fellow MR's live up or around Hesperia. I could very easily split fuel money no questions asked. I just want to have something cool to do when I'm on hometime from the truck.
As opposed to sitting at home living vicariously because everyone I know here is working when I'm not.
Okay...breathe.ahhh.

Already on that.
So far, not so promising.
Looks like I truly "Am Legend" up here.
Perhaps I should consider relocating down there if the situation doesn't improve sometime soon.

I know this won't helped your situation. Big Bike Dan always memntions having a ride, down the main street in Hysperia, everytime we have driven close to that area. Dan has family there. He tells me that he tells people about riding a bike in that area, when he is there, and all he gets back is, blank stares.

Blank stares and finger-waving is all you will get in a small city dominated by anything with mud-tires and Flowmasters.
But still, even if BigBikeDan and a couple of you guys stop over up here, let me know.
Because if I'm to get a movement started up here, we'll need a little LA Basin flavor to get the ass moving.
Speaking of Flowmasters, I just went out and got me noise-cancelling headphones today.
Those damn things make me want to choke someone.

There's always been an area I wanted to checkout in Hesperia, http://www.calearth.org/EcoDome.htm What I was looking at was taking a ride up there with/without a train ride. Stay the night check out alot of stuff at Calearth and get schooled into what they do. Then comeback the next day. If you happen to know the area and roads to ride and not ride, I'm all ears!

Oh yeah, Nader Khalili and the Earthen domes made up of 10/90 cement and sand.
That's right off of Topaz and Main coming east off the 15.
Went over there in high school as part of an art class I was in.
Those things are 80 degrees inside, while it bakes at 120 on the outside.
Main St is only bad between the freeway and Maple St.
As are other areas around here, where there's plenty of room along the street, then dwindles down to barely enough room in another.

Let's say there's a group of ridazz that want to go up there and spend a 3 day weekend. How would you recommend them to get up there and back? Preferably using just our bikes and public transportation. I was looking at maps once and looked like old highway 66 looked good. Of course all I could see is what google maps showed. It looked like it went along some railroad tracks, so it looked like a steady climb.

I've also got feedback that the roads are too dangerous for biking to there.

Unfortunately, this is why I call this particular area the Panama Canal. Coming from the IE, all the once peaceful roads crisscoss, intersect, and eventually run into the 15.
With that said, public transit and riding could work using a combination of different bus services.
I would say the best place to meet up at would be the corner of Sierra Ave and Baseline in Fontucky, then ride up Sierra to Glen Helen Rd.
The only qualm with Glen Helen is that it still might be closed off due to the Suckburbian expansion I mentioned earlier.
The only ways around this would be either to pull a fast one and rush the 3 mile zone, sweet talk security, or ride the 15 up to the still-open portion of Glen Helen Rd.
From that point, ride along Glen Helen and follow it Cleghorn/Old Rt 66. Follow this up until you reach the 15 and this is where the fun begins. 10-15 mile uphill slog, then you reach Oak Hill Rd.
This goes all the way up to Main St.
Now, if you're solo like myself everyday, it would be dangerous.
But, if there's at least 6-30 people, the hardasses will think twice about pulling any shit.

yeah, it's hard to get stuff started out here in the IE. five of us usually caravan to LA for the big rides. maybe you can hook up with the cycledelics kids in riverside, they trek out to LA, too.
the rides in the IE aren't anywhere as big as LA but there's stuff happening in redlands, riverside and rancho.

Bentstrider,

Do you have any idea when Glen Helen Rd? I'll take a look at the roads and routes you mentioned and get back to you.

BTW, sorry about hijacking your thread here. I'll start another when I rely to you.

Nah, you ain't hijacking anything.
That seems to be my profession when it comes to this game.
Anywho, that stretch of Glen Helen from Sierra to the Glen Helen exit off the 15 still appears gimped.
I only know this from weekly/bi-weekly passes in the bigrig along that route.
I feel somewhat like the groups U2 Recon aircraft.
