Bicyclist dies in Huntington Beach accident

HUNTINGTON BEACH – Coroners have identified the victim of a Saturday afternoon bicycle accident as Christopher Alan Winkel, 26.

Police responded to reports that a bicyclist was injured near the intersection of Brookhurst Street and Banning Avenue around 2:26 p.m. on Saturday. When police arrived, Winkel was lying unconscious on the sidewalk. He was taken to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Witnesses with information are being asked to call policeTraffic Investigator Bob Barr at 714-536-5666

 That sux. 2nd rider killed (that we know of) in so cal the few days. Sadly, I would guess 1/2 don't even make the news.

 There's very little info on this. We don't even know if its a bike vs car accident. I'll see if the Bicycle Tree will be doing a ghost bike for this rida. Middle of day and going that young, sad.
