SAN BERNARDINO-- Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who killed a 19 year old man riding a bicycle with his younger brother, who was critically injured in the impact.
At around 7:00 p.m. Friday night, 19 year old Thomas Joseph Meeks of San Bernardino was riding on a bicycle with his younger brother east on 40th Street, near the Arrowhead Farms neighborhood, San Bernardino police said.
When Meeks cut across a roadway, a vehicle also traveling eastbound slammed into the brothers and fled the scene.
Meeks was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the county coroner's office. His younger brother, who was not identified, was rushed to Loma Linda University Medical Center in critical condition.
Witnesses could only describe the suspect's vehicle as possibly a white Pontiac or Chysler vehicle from 2000 or earlier. Police say the vehicle likely sustained front-end damage around the license plate or windshield areas.
Anyone with information about the hit-and-run incident is asked to call the San Bernardino Police Department, Traffic Division at (909) 385-5735.
