Question for LA city planners
Thread started by Roadblock at 11.14.07 - 6:46 pm

Coming to you live from the Greenline in the middle of the 105 fwy just west of the 110.....

Why don't these stupid morons put subways underneath every freeway in Los Angeles? Am I missing something obvious here? (Besides the fact that money and morons run this town)

There would be no nimby noise complaints, no excessive amounts of land to aquire, no neighborhoods disenfranchised........ Real simple solution right??

a good idea. i think weight and funding might be issues, but im no engineer, and neither am i an economist.

Funding is always the first problem no matter what..... But when there is finally funding, then there's all the issues that come next, immenant domain, neighborhoods blocking the route nimby shit, like as in the goldline. Its slow as hell because all the neighborhood made a big stink..... So if we ever finally do get the funding hurdle cleared... How about just sticking the mother fucker under the freeway. Or in the middle of the freeway. Pull the carpool lane and plop a rail up in their.

thanx for the moment of claearity road block..then reality stuck with reality .well these big wigs havn't done such thing cause,,they want to keep control of the amount of people coming in and out of the city..plus the (pricetag)funding would be rediculous not tho mention there arent enough jobs for it to pay for it self in the long run,,
it would totally be the greatest transit move ever In every way possible but wont be started till its to late (sorry for the pesimistic atitude) they only see there big picture which is there money..

Don't feel alone my frustrated friends. We have the same issue in San Diego. Some consolation huh?
It would be unbelievably expensive to put the lines directly under the existing freeways. Though it would save on the rights access issues. And, go to basically all the same places you go in a car now.
Putting lines above ground either adjacent to or on/above the freeway is also challenging with all the bridges and such. One option is "trains on tires". Think metro trolley with bus wheels on it. They climb steeper hills than rail lines and can turn more sharply too. The cost per mile is like 20% of rail I think(don't quote me on this figure). But you still have to put it somewhere. I like the carpool lane Idea myself, since it already clears the overpasses.
What's that about 3cents maybe?
