Peace Corps

Anyone done this or thinking of going?
I just finished my application and I gotta wait and see if I get accepted and then where they would send me.
I'd love to hear from anyone here who might have already been in Peace Corps and actually gone to another country and done some work. Any positive, or negative experiences?

It seems to me at this point in my life like the best possible thing I could do. Go travel and live a vastly different way of life, help people become self-sufficient, learn some skills for myself and figure out what I wanna do with my life..that's my thinking right now at least

so rad. there was a person on here not long ago talking about this experience and it made me want to sign up.

I already tried to go for it, but something about needing collige edumakation prevented that.

Eh, maybe when I'm 50.

i have been thinking about doing this as well. for the same exact reasons.

the only thing is that you dont get to choose where you go which can be a bummer if they send you somewhere totally awful.
my friend said there are other organizations that do the same thing as peace corps but you get to choose where you go which is a nice thing i think.

when my friend sends me the info ill send it your way!

Go for it!!!!

My uncle did it when he was in his thirties I think; and that was twenty years ago, now. It was totally a life-changing experience for him. Some of -- if not the -- best times in his life. He was helping women in Guatemala open businesses, like bakeries and such. Now, he's living up near Big Bear, working in the volunteer Fire Dept. where they bring up troubled teens to work with in the summer. He loves it. He's probably doing all that because of the Corp.

I'm definitely planning on joining after I finish college. It's been a goal since I was a little kid and heard my uncle did it.

As for being placed somewhere without choice: I think that's better because then you're forced into an environment where you NEED to change and adjust; it will make you creative and, when you come out of it all, you'll look back on an incredibly changing experience. (I like to think). And, that's the whole idea of being unselfish. Don't worry about where you're going. This is more for helping people that desperately need it than for helping yourself in any way.

I say, do it!

The evolution of life is constant change...it is your ability to adapt to change that will define your level of success and contribution to this life. Rise to the new challenges you have set for yourself....
