Dude, what is up with all this thievery!
My friend and her husband just got their bikes stolen from their garage in South Pasadena. Her bike is a Specialized Dolce with Tiagra, a good bike but replaceable. His bike is not so replaceable: it was a gift from his Belgian grandfather. The bike is nice and has great sentimental value.
The bike is a Kessels-made Merckx frame, not to be confused with the ones made by Falcon. I think it's a 58cm-60cm. You can see one here:

It has those same long-pointed lugs. No tubing stickers, but appears to be butted Reynolds 531. The bike used to be Molteni orange but repainted a white to blue fade during the 80s. Has a black Eddy Merckx decal on the downtube and a decal for the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia on the seat tube. There are pasta-box photos of Merckx's face on the headtube and seat tube.
Campagnolo Nuovo Record derailleurs, brakes, headset.
Wheels are Rigida clincher rims laced with butted spokes to Campy Record hubs
Six-speed freewheel, slightly lower gears than a typical racing cluster
Pantographed Campy seatpost
3TTT bars and stem.
White bar tape.
Selle San Marco Rolls saddle, brownish.
It's a really distinctive bike due to the repaint. If anyone sees a bike resembling this please contact me. Even if it's been parted out I'd like to recover the frame.

this isnt a lately thing, bicycles have been stolen in los angeles, for years and years and years. i think the volume of bikes and people being introduced to MR correlates the number of bike theft reports on the forums, and the decline in people caring.
my baby is gone and i've come to terms with that...
