What’s your name (optional) and/or your Midnight Ridazz log-in name?
tyler / ruinedbyidiots
How did you first hear about Midnight Ridazz and what was your first group bike ride?
My friends Drew (monovsstereo) and Ally posted about a ride on another message board we all posted on, and I met them all at Barnsdall Park for the Pajama Party Ride in September of 2006.
Currently what rides do you attend regularly and what ride(s) would you like to see make a comeback?
I’m either doing hipster Nascar at Encino or I’m riding with Tren Way.
I want the old Midnight Ridazz to come back - before the taggers, before the thefts, before the under 18 crowd showed up and forgot how to ride with one sip of beer. Back when people were riding because they wanted to ride. I mean, how many parking lots can you drink in before that begins to be old hat?
What advice would you pass on to new ridazz?
Hold your fucking line.
If you were leading a group ride, what would you do differently?
I lead a few challenging training rides for the AIDS Lifecycle team. Because everyone was there to ride and not fuck around and act like a jackass, I knew there would be no problems.
Do you prefer small rides (30 or less people) or larger rides and why?
Tell us about the best and worst experience you’ve encountered on a group ride.
Best - Meeting Liz on one of the ALC training rides i helped lead.
Worst - actually having to use my first responder training on a bunch of belligerent drunks at crank mob.
What did you do for fun before you started “riding”?
Swam competitively, broke BMX bikes in half, got involved with my local hardcore scene, released records, reviewed records in zines, etc etc.
What’s the best and worst thing group bike rides have done for cycling as a whole in Los Angeles?
Its a mixed bag. We might have gotten more people out on bikes, but rides like C.R.A.N.K. MOB might have given us a bad rap.
If you can name 1 person who embodies the spirit of “Midnight Ridazz”, Who would it be and Why?
Laharr. If you’ve ever looked inside his bag you would understand.
What do you think the public’s perception is of group bike rides?
They probably hate us.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Paul Dianno is the only vocalist for iron maiden.
