START TIME: 9 a.m.










You may have heard about the IAAL•MAF "Ten Bridges" Ride. Well, now Agent Orange is planning to visit
all 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,
6, 7, 8, 9, 10 Frank Lloyd Wright homes and buildings right here in SoCal. In one long and crazy ride. In one
long and crazy day.



Background: As a tenacious fan of Wright this trek is something that's been brewing in Agent Orange's
head for several months now, germinating from the summer RIDE-Arc ride that visited the Ennis House in
Los Feliz.



Certainly this is a journey that is still very much in the infancy of its planning stages, but one thing is
certain. Given...



1)The distance and time required to visit all 10 of Frank Lloyd Wright's Southern California homes and
buildings (from Duarte to Malibu; route to be determined) and somehow get back to civilization;

2) The hangover-be-damned Sunday morning start time;

3) The elevations involved;



...this most definitely, undoubtedly and confidently qualifies as a Bad Idea Ride of epic freakin' once-in-
a-lifetime proportions. So whether you're a fan of Wright specifically or of architecture or landmarks
generally, or just a crazy mofo who wants to do a crazy ride, here's some very preliminary info:



• Why June 8? That's Frank Lloyd Wright's birthday (plus it gives Agent Orange a lot of time to plan
this to perfection)



• The ride will most likely gather at the Sierra Madre Villa Gold Line Station in Pasadena where it will
depart at 9 a.m. for the enclave of Bradbury (between Monrovia and Duarte), the location of the Pearce
House that Wright built in 1950. From there we will venture back to Pasadena for a visit to Millard House ("La
Miniatura"), before working our way westward for visits to the Ennis, Barnsdall, Storer and Freeman houses
of Los Feliz and Hollywood. From there the ride will move to the Anderton Court shops of Rodeo Drive in
Beverly Hills before rolling up into Brentwood where the Sturgis House is. Last up will be the most difficult
stretch over and up to a remote section of Mulholland Highway for the Obeler House in Malibu.



• As the proverbial crow flies the straight-line distance from the first house in Duarte to the last in
Malibu is 50 miles. The point-to-point ride will be substantially longer and don't forget the elevations to be
gained and lost (and that's not taking into account the ride back from Malibu).



• Gear Ye! Gear Ye! You'd be a nut of the highest order to attempt this on a fixie/single-speed.



• If timed right the option of taking a docent-led a tour of the Barnsdall House might be available.



• There is consideration being given to: A) renting a vehicle and/or trailer capable of hauling bikes and
riders back from Malibu to civilization, or B) eliminating the Malibu destination. Time will tell, but either way
this may be a Bad Idea Ride in the making, not a Stoopid Idiotic Ridiculous Effing Lunatic Idea Ride.
