viable, healthy and sustainable transportation choice.

About Metro: Metro is the planner, operator and builder of LA County’s expanding public transportation system. The agency plays an

important role in bicycle planning across LA County, funding more than $155.5 million for bicycle projects since 1993, facilitating first

mile/last mile connections to transit and supporting bicycle transportation through various policies and programs. Metro’s sponsorship of

About The Northeast LA Bicycle Friendly Business District: The Northeast LA Bicycle Friendly Business District (BFBD) is a pilot program

administered by the City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT), that encourages local businesses and community groups

to work with the City to expand public infrastructure and amenities for Angelenos traveling by bicycle. The program is a public-private

partnership that fosters bicycle-friendly culture and expands access to amenities that make travel by bicycle convenient and attractive. The

NELA BFBD features bicycle corrals, bicycle repair stations, discounts from participating businesses for patrons traveling by bicycle, and

bike-friendly community events like the Spintacular Fireworks Neighborhood Tour. These amenities are coupled with improved traffic

safety measures and bicycle facilities. The NELA BFBD pilot is directed by a steering committee comprised of community members

including representation from the Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council, the Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council, Occidental

College, the Arroyo Seco Foundation, the Northeast LA Alliance of River Communities, LA Walks, the Los Angeles County Bicycle

Coalition, and C.I.C.L.E. By encouraging local shopping by bike, the BFBD Program captures local dollars, and promotes business district

development, making the neighborhood happier, healthier, and more connected.
