Yo, it's time for a new ROTW, or anyway, I think it is:
B E N T S T R I D E R
This MF is alway regaling us with crazy ass stories of big rigs and high desert at umpteen o'clock. Honestly I have weird ass truck driving fantasies now where BS trucks around Top Ramen, a couple crazy bikes, and other foodstuffs in chase of the truth about Midnight Ridazz. He's always coming up with off kilter interesting questions about Ridazz like the "turf wars" thread. So yeah - Rider of the Week - BentStrider.
Let's ask this guy some awkward questions, since he's so willing to answer the easy ones. I'll start with this softball:
Where does the handle bentstrider come from?
Why do live in the High Desert weirdo?
What's your favorite bike?

I thought y'all were playing around there for a minute, but this is a big surprise.
Yeah, I'm putting some work right now and just got finished with 8hrs of classes, but I'm good.
So, to answer the first set of questions, from Alex Thompson, no relation to FOX11 Anchor, Mark Thompson(or is there?).
Where does the handle bentstrider come from?
-Back in 2003/04ish, I was watching the first Lord of the Rings Movie, and also had a fascination with recumbents as a tool in the fight against the desert wind.
Aragorn was known as "Strider" before he revealed his true name.
Recum"Bent" was pretty self-explanatory.
It was then that I decided to slice these two into their bettr, halves and fuse them.
"Prymetyme_is_me" was killed off and "bentstrider" has reigned supreme ever since.
Why do live in the High Desert weirdo?
Originally born in Illinois, my mom and stepdad moved out here in '87 when I was four.
I've been living here ever since, but I'm making it a goal to move out of here as soon as I get back into the truck, or some other well-paying line of work.
Simply put, I'm ready to go when the time's right.
What's your favorite bike?
Because of the laid-back nature, I'm sticking with recumbents.
I'll eventually be moving into the "UnderSeatSteering", larger-diameter-wheel, type.

I was figuring your handle came from riding a recumbent and also a character from Stargate. Never thought about LOTR.

One of my friends actually took me to go see that movie without me having the slightest idea what it was about.
I once thought about tacking on Stargate-inspired handle, but I've had "bentstrider" for too, many years to let it go.
And since it's now evolved into somewhat of a "street-name", that's all the more reason to keep it.

A few more questions:
Do you ever feel self-conscious riding a bike that says "Hummer" on it?
Do you have any experience with skinny-tired, drop-handlebar-having "road" bikes, and if so, what makes you prefer 'bents and fat-tired bikes?
If you end up going into law enforcement, will you keep coming to MR?
What do you think of the recent trend in MR toward more wackiness and extracurricular activities on rides?

-Nah, I just think of it as a bicycle.
As per Hummers, I treat them like any other motor-vehicle, just another tool in the shed.
-I have nothing against the "wedgies", I actually test-rode a few of them over the last few years.
The power's there, but I just never got around to getting one.
As for my preference, I've been riding mtb's for all my short life, and recumbents have both speed and comfort in one, stylized package.
-When and if I ever do get into it, then of course.
Only catch is I'll have to be like you(pc) and don the bandana around my face when I go on the more, wackier, out-of-control rides.
-The Cubcamp and Wolfpack rides seem pretty cool, and I'm capable of doing them.
But, seeing as the first MR attended was a party function, I'm more partial to the rides with other activities aside from the riding.
If I want to haul ass, I save that for daily commuting and my 24 Hr Fitness sessions.
With MR, it's all about chill-riding and soaking up the positivity that entails!!!

Some say I've finally found my "social niche", while a few think it's some type of actual, cult.
-None of my own, but my younger brother keeps his 7.62mm, Mosin-Nagant, M1938(?) in my room.
Damned thing kicks like a mule with a shit attack!!

-Honestly no. But I'm usually working out at the gym around 2-3AM and that's all that's open.
Then I also do Del Taco as well.

-Somewhat, I've always pictured myself as a little bit of Ash/Evil Dead, and Dr.Daniel Jackson/Stargate.
Not exactly superheroes, but the supernatural tends to fall in their laps anyway.
What is the best and the worst part of being a truck driver?
-Best part would be traveling places cool, getting paid for it, getting away from home-drama.
Worst, part ever is parking.
Especially when USDOT/HOS reg's interfere with a load delivery/assignment.
What is the neat-o-est thing you ever saw while you where on your truck driving adventures?
The Mississippi River on the 10, 40, 80, and 90 going east or west.
Riverboats, weird bridges, and Southern Belle's in Vicksburg, MS.
Did I ever race a roadie on my EZ-1 recumbent?
-In July when I was up in Sumner, WA, 30 miles south of Seattle.
I was tailing this "furrow-browed" roadie for ten miles.
Although he dropped me on the hill leading up to this one lake.
Needless to say, he seemed scared.

FYI, a little bit piece of trivia...
In the Carnival world, the equivalent of a Lot Lizard is a PBQ or Possum Belly Queen. The Possum Belly is the storage spaces under the trailer box of the truck (or ride being trailered).
So, Bent, ever pull any Carny equipment or intermodal boxes?

-Yes, last year up in Washington, I pulled a 22wheeler.
Essentially, it was a 53' foot trailer with three sets of trailer axles for better weight distribution.
-None of those two, but the reason I haven't been driving since October was due to that roll-over I got into in Utah back in October.
Hopefully, I'll start driving with Robertsons Transport, or something real soon.
-No lot-lizards for me, I'm still searching for my own, Col. Samantha Carter, PhD. I've deciphered the gate, now I need her to dial my DHD.

-As far as my mustache goes, I've just had it for awhile and never bothered to shave it off, it really serves no purpose.
The hair on the other hand, it kind of told people if I just got up from sleeping, so in order to keep people guessing, I shaved it in 2000.
But who knows, when I start getting a little, older, I'll let it grow out again to piss off everyone I know that will be bald by then.
Religion.

No. The bicycle is just a tool I use to do work with.
That and it serves this purpose to the fullest degree.

No use in even calling these places different cities/towns.
They're all just one, clustered mass of 20%-desert dwellers, and 80%-"I moved from the LA Basin because houses are cheaper, no gang violence, air is cleaner, < insert phoney-baloney excuse for moving up here, here > .
To put it in simple terms, 70 miles from dntn LA, 180 miles from Vegas.

Yea I'm out in 29, you guys definitly have better air than we do. We get the smog thats pushed from LA and riverside up through banning pass (windmills areas, casino morongo) and right on to us. Just wondering how many Ridazz were in the high desert. You coming to the r2rrrr on ol' route 66 next month?

I have a friend who is looking to get into trucking. He doesn't know how to get started. His driving record is clean. How does he get started?
do the company's provide training, (tuition reimbursement)? is there gov't grants available for schooling? Do the schools have plans, where you pay them after? are certain companies better then others?
since you been down this road before, I thought you would have some insight.
He is interested in long haul trucking.

-The air's somewhat better, but I've tended to function a helluva lot better on lower, altitudes.
As far as ridazz go, I'm practically the only one up here aside from the oft-mentioned, DUI's and weekend-warriors.
If MR was a religion, we'd be the monks living in the remote, far-off villages.
