Hello I have been saving up money for a while now (i just turned 18 )
I am going to GET MY OWN FIXE (YEAH) in two weeks.I use my friends Fixie sometimes.i have been riding fixed for 3 months now.I was just wondering where can i get some cool spoke cards.Can i get them or buy them when i go on a ride.Where are some cool spots to buy parts for my bike when i get it.

I am a biker.I use to bmx but i switched over to fixed.But Long hair GUYS/GIRLS like you act stupid when a newbie comes along.i prefer fixed 100 times more than bmx.What is wrong with switching over and saving time and money by biking to school???

You can get a killer Freitag messenger bag at this place called ReForm School in silverlake. spoke cards are $2 each on any ride. find a guy named eddie and he'll hook you up.

np man, I was kidding about the spoke cards if it wasnt obvious. anyway, I have usually gotten mine at the beginning of the rides, if that's any help. just show up and ask whoever is leading the ride/posted the ride for one.

ink, no need to be hating on ruinedbyidiots, he knows his shit when it comes to anything fixed gear.
Being new to fixed gear bikes, you could definitely learn a lot from him if you were nice! It's not like he's the only one that knows anything, but he helped me a lot when I was making the switch to fixed.

I'm under 30 and have strength and ride an 18 speed with brakes. I've tried a fixie a few times, and aside from the simplicity of maintenance, I don't see the appeal honestly. anyway, good luck with your new ride.

Parts/gear at Orange 20 or LA Brakeless or the internetz.
Talk to people at Bike Oven or Bike Kitchen or BikeRoWave for guidance.
Get spoke cards on rides.
Seriously, though, fixed must be nice for its ease/lack of maintenance, but I can't tell you how many times I've seen people needlessly struggle up/down hills while I ease by on my geared bike. To each his own, I guess.

This thread is too long to read it all. First of all, since when do people get away with selling spoke cards?! Providing spoke cards is a community service, and is done as a token to show your appreciation for people coming on your ride. Secondly, noob, don't call yourself a noob unless you want people to pick on you. Proper internet slang dictates that a noob is an annoying version of a newb...
We were all new once, just don't ride fixed and pay loads for shit you don't need cause you think it'll make you cool. This a community that appreciates creative and usually inexpensive ways to be original. Only buy what is necessary that you can't make or think of an original way to do it.
Come find me on a ride, I'll buy you a drink (water of course)! Then you can take the can and turn it into a spoke card or something.

If you want still be riding your bike when you're over 40, consider a geared bike sometime in the future. Chances are you probably won't be riding as soon as you get your drivers license, so enjoy riding fixed.

This is all with the longevity of your knees in mind. It seems like it's super easy when you're young to blow your shit out, especially riding in traffic with a lot of starts/stops. I love my fixie, but i ride my road bike when my knees hurt :)

OK to each their own. I've come to the conclusion that judging is a black hole anyways. It's like collecting art. You can't quantify good or bad taste.
I'm still getting this thread bronzed. Why? Cause it has all the marks I like in a collectible thread. Starts out with something that everyone holds dear to them. In this case, spoke cards. The author adds some sure fire subject material like talking about getting a fixie and where to hang out with rabid fixie ridazz. And as could be expected, plays the forum out beautifully by acting foolish and clueless for 75-80 posts on the thread. Brilliant!
