So here it is, quite often someone will come up to me on a ride we'll meet and ask me what I do. Usually I say I'm a photographer, that was at one time true. However over the past year it's become increasingly a tall tale. You see before I started bicycling I was a commercial photographer. www.studioblank.net (only about half of these are mine, the rest my "business partners"). Since I started biking I've increasingly become less and less interested in the business of photography, which is the only path to success in our industry. You may ask well Franz "How do you survive?" well barely, but I get by by retouching architectural photography. Now that's fine and good however lately I've been wanting to shoot really badly and maybe get back in the business start doing editorial again. The thing is all I know and am interested in is bikes and cyclists.
So this is where I ask for your help. "Help!" you say "I already bought you enough beer to keep you drunk a year, what more can I give?" I want you!
I want to shoot the riders I've hung out with for the past year, to record us as we are now, for when we get boring in the future .
I also could use your help creatively getting together coming up with unique ideas for locations, dress etc. My thoughts are to do it by local groups and branch out from there, TWBG, Cubz, Funderstorm, and get those in between at different times.
Below are examples. Help me Midnight Ridazz you're my only hope. I wanna be a photog again and not just a bikeslut.

What about that idea to shot a series of photos that put together makes a panoramic of a classic LA intersection and in each photo would be a different LA bike gang.

Funny you're doing this posting now. Just the other day I clicked on your profile and saw that you were a photorapher. And I thought, "what the fuck?" I've never seen you with a camera on a ride... and these rides are bursting with potential images. GOOD to see you shooting again.
As a side note, in a few months I going to book a gallery and invite MR photographers to show their work. Start shooting kid!

Man, Franz, I'm impressed. REALLY impressed. And I work for a site where I have to stare at photos all day long.
Just make arrangements to start showing up at bike events and go to town.

I'm not trying to sound demanding, but what about a, "two-wheeled destroyer, sailing through a sea of 4wheeled fish" series?
Essentially, capture persons like myself who are the only ones riding down, car-predominant, streets.
And BTW, those shots of the bikerowave have a haunting, effect on my eyes.
Almost like the people in the pictures are ready to come out and smack you!!!

Thanks for the comments, I talked to Alec and made a diagram I'm definitely going to set that shot up. Bentstrider I think that may require a little more post than I'm ready to commit to however I like getting ideas.

You can definitely shoot me, Franz. Those pics are fantastic. And I'd love to have you come over and shoot both Almira and I with the puppy before I take off for India for a month, cause she won't be a puppy when I get home, I fear. Or at least, she won't be puppy sized. Id love to have photos of that quality of her before she gets all grown up. I'm outta here next friday until April 29.

Well, to narrow a good, shot of myself in the desert down, I know of one spot that could kick alot of ass.
Samhain and richie rode across it with me in November.
The Hwy 18 bridge that goes across the Mojave River as you leave Old-Town Victorville.
Essentially any point of constant traffic up here, with myself shot alongside it would look pretty cool.

Franz you are a world class photog and I wanna see you shoot more and more and more!!! when I first met you, you always had your camera on you and were shooting - then I think you broke it and I didn't see you with a camera except barely ever which made me sad :(
so I'm glad to hear you wanna get back shooting!!!!!
you guys should see the shots he took in Vegas at interbike last year!!

I hoping that I've reached my limit of being boring, but then again, I've got a few years on most of you.
On the other hand, most of you have a very long way to go before you could consider boredom as a career. If that was an option, you'd have been well on your way by now.
I can state from observation though, that you will be older in the future, so yes, put yourself in Franz' capable hands and get recorded now.

franz... you should check out this guy karlheinz weinberger. he basically followed this swiss motorcycle gang for decades, from being a bunch of young kids obsessed with fashion (this was in the late 50s) to turning to a branch of Hells Angels to being just a bunch old farts that liked riding out in the hills and getting drunk.
watch out if you order his books though, his other claim to fame was being a pioneer of european homoerotic photography
