"The Friends of the Friendless"
We'll ride seeking out other random strangers on bikes and make them our leader! Follow them, at whatever pace, until we reach THEIR destination and voila! instant friend! This is an ongoing experiment that has got us into a number of adventures! Its amazing what can happen when you dont know what can happen!!!
I'd like to ask if you have any ideas of "gifts" for our new friends, BRING IT! Beers, snacks, jewelry, Chinese stocks, whatever! I'm pretty sure that in this case, you
can buy friendship!

We're making this ride a regularly irregular ride!
NEW FORMAT!!!
We'll host Friends of the Friendless every month, but with a new twist. In keeping with the concept of rider "recruitment", the ride will take place the Thursday night before the city's two biggest rides, CRANK Mob and Midnight Ridazz "Second Friday" rides, by alternating months. Thus, we can tell our new friends, "Hey, if you like tonight, YOU'LL LOVE THIS WEEKEND!!!" and we fill them in on the CRANK mob/MR ride! Also, we'll be alternating months, so... Feb=Crank Mob, March=MR, Apr=Crank Mob and so on. Just watch the posts, it will be clear.
The ride will also START near the start of the upcoming ride, so be watching the starting locations!

I fucken LOVE this shit. I've only been on one so far.. it started out slow, we creeped out this one guy... but then we ran into dude that lived in a loft. actually a good artist and real cool guy. invited us all up to the crib. hahah yesssssss!

Was this the 'art gallery' off Lincoln? That night was mindblowing, so much random stuff happened... Later on we literally rolled into that bookstore on Main St (or Abbott Kinney) that have live drummers playing.

That WAS a great night...my girlfriend was on that ride too. she rarely rides....what was funny about the art place was that we found the couple about 50 feet from their place and they invited us in. I remember saying to them "you have 2 choices....we can follow you guys around on bikes or we can follow you home"

Man, are there any pics of that rooftop gallery? No one would ever suspect there to be an art complex on top of a carpet store (or whatever) on Lincoln! And they were really cool hosts too. I wonder if this would've happened if we had the 50+ on the last FOTF...hmmm

I think we just boosted CRANK MOB's count by 5!!! What a night, the more I think about it, its my fav FOTF so far! So, a little ride recount...
First was
GUS, on his cell phone. Too freaked out to enjoy us, but too polite to tell us to f* off! We know we're you live! Haha
Then
CARLOS, riding the wrong way on the sidewalk until we caught him at the gas station. Harry gave him a pump. Before he left I told him about CRANK MOB and took his number, bc he wanted me to text him the address. I did. His reply -
"Kool.c u theere" ...What kool guy!
Before we had a chance to say bye to Carlos, my favorite friend of the night rolled up with style! SUSANNA, rolled up on a barely working mtb asking, in a Costa Rican accent - what this is, why, who are you, where is the next one, and then confessed to me, "I have the bike fever!" WHAT! So we obliged her bike fever and escorted her to work! She was so excited to have her fever relieved!
At her work, we met photographer RAY. He was into it and I let him know we're here for you, man! We walk-biked through the Promenade to get his bike, and we hit the road for the next liquor store-Ray was thirsty. So we're rolling and realize - Ray's not with us. XL and I did re-con and found him, ditching us for beer and some alone time riding home, mild bummer.
But nothing cures mild bummers like WILD BIKE FEVERS! Susanna had finished up work and chased us down! This lady is so rad, hopefully you'll all meet her at CRANK Mob! I talked with her about a lot after she led us to her Venice taco truck..she is pretty much built for CRANK Mob! "500 people?...in the costume?...on the bikes?" Hahaha
We proceeded to Alibi Bar and the ride dissipated in different ways. I enjoyed hanging with Birthday KatiePoche and Pizza King Nathansnider. (West Couchwick 2.0 anyone?)
I think the ride might have been the most successful and fun so far, for me at least. The more I think about it, its like we accomplished fun, instead of having it! A lot of it has to do with Harry's *perfect* clutch flag creation! DUDE! Thank you Harry, so much, you made this happen! Thanks again!

A quick friend relay I almost forgot - LAUREN the student. She was rad too, just too busy to chill, because of schoolwork. I told her that "We're the kind of bike ride that does your homework." She might be at CMOB.
onward forward continuous renaissance
I am continually going 2.0 on this ride. The next one is scheduled for March 12th, the night before the next Midnight Ridazz ride. It won't be happening at Crank Mob, but instead will be in the area near the MR startpoint. Stay tuned! I love this ride again so much!!!

The kogi BBQ tacos were the highlight of the night for me. Ya'll are terrific and I can't wait for the next Friendless Ride. I hear it'll be on the East, which is cool, cause that is where I work and I can try to motivate my co-workers to get on a bike. Thanks!

If anyone plans to bring a music system (last I heard Harry was), please keep it at a low volume and able to be quickly turned down, when we approach or need to talk to friend. Barleye had music on the last ride and did a great job of it too!

Its an open-ended bicycle experiment adventure, not a ride!
It doesnt always return to the start. In the past we've gone on til 3am in a strangers apartment, stayed up all night in a laundromat, or never went home. Just come on out, and leave when you've had your fill!

I love this ride so much! The Friends were super fun, like they appeared in our movie called FOTF and changed the script making it better and better!
Brooklyn Nick - "I am not used to having friends. I am from Brooklyn." HAHAHA Well, at least he was nice enough to let us take him to his fake home! Venice to MDR.
Ghetto Ass Pete - Put it on repeat! Pete in the street! What a coincidence / it rhymes with EAT! Took us down SHHHHHH Alley while serenading a Siren! Wait,
serenading a Siren? Could Ghetto Ass Pete actually be Superman, immune to the Sirens' calls? Or maybe his SHHHH is louder than their AHHHHHHHHH... Venice to Venice.
Cruiser Skid and Sidekick Skippy - Not their real nicknames but that would be as awesome as their riding style. Took us briefly to The Otheroom. When we left them, we promised to return when they were leaving... Really cool twist on FOTF,
THE LONG-TERM FRIENDSHIP... Hmm...
JJ and Jacob - That's a lot of J's. And a lot of hill. Took us from Venice to Otis College. Thanks for the vertical bike loving and inspiration to LAX! Terminal 4ever!

After hitting Otis again, we returned to Cruiser Skid and Sidekick Skippy at The Otheroom, they had 4 total Friends on bikes. By this point we had only 5 remaining Friendless. Then 3 of them split. So the tables turned, we were endangered, and so ended the ride. J-Ro and I kicked it for like 2 hours drinking in front of the Venice FD and then took my private jet and went to Catalina, from where I am writing this.
All in all, two people told me this was the best ride they've been on in a year! YAY!

I love that Marcus is trying to name everyone JJ.
Cruiser Skid was named Jason but Marcus kept calling him JJ, and the guy Marcus called JJ in the last post was actually named Trinidad!
