Any chance we'll get to hear the distance of the ride and/or the end point of the ride? It's nice to be able to figure out how much further i will have to ride to get back to my car at the starting point, as well as figure out if the overall distance is too much for someone I may bring along if he/she isn't as strong of a rider.

I agree, I finally got my wife to tentatively go out on a ride, the Goth Cruzz, which by the way (unless things have changed significantly) will be about 11miles roundtrip, start at the park, magnolia and tujunga, and end at the North Hollywood redline station (which is about two blocks from the start point). With a coupla watering holes in between.

She's no biciclista, but she's willing...sorta. Now I just need to work on my two too cool kids...

I would love it if people would post this info for every ride. It makes planning my night a lot easier, and makes the ride much more enjoyable because i'm not spending the first portion of the ride figuring out how i'm getting back to my car or which buses i'm going to take to get home. Posting the route would be even better, but i understand people like to keep that a bit of a secret until the ride itself.

I like the element of surprise. I like surprises. BUT it helps with overall route planning if we have an Idea of where the ride ENDS, if and only if the end of the ride is far from the start (which Hollywood Ridazz has been).

So don't tell us exactly where. But maybe how many MILES from the start, and maybe compass direction.

Well.....

Without giving to much away...

The end of the route is no where near where we will start from. But it will be within a very short distance of the Hollywood and Vine Metro Station. It is a short ride, no big hills, a few mild inclines, excellent for a first timer or bici newbie.

I did it on a fixie with a friend in an hour.

Last Red Line heading towards the valley is 12:36 am, although I wouldn't mind getting in that station by 12:25 am because i'm screwed if i miss that last train. If you think I won't have a problem being in that station at 12:25 am I'm definitely taking the red line. Whatcha think?

Oh and for those heading East, the last red line train from the Hollywood/Vine station is at 1:04 am.

Cutting the rides short so people can hit the redline is a bummer for the majority who don't depend on it..... But the good news is we've got our friends from Cruzz With Us in the valley on the last Saturdays now who will be hosting some great Midnight Ridazz rides.

Does the 420 bus still roll out to the valley from hollywood and highland? That could be a better alternative then rushing to catch the redline or?

The 420 bus, no longer exsists... They phased both the 420 & 424 lines, due to the Red Line..

Overall, I don't care about catching the train, or what time the ride will end. I just like to know where the end is and the distance of the ride. Based on the distance and the end point, i can get a bit of an idea of what time the ride will end and then figure out how i'm going to get home.

Personally, I like when the rides go late into the night. That's my favorite time to ride.

Also it looked to me like half the ridazz pulled into the fatburger lot in their cars, suv's, etc. whatever, start the ride earlier? I don't know, I work for a living too so how much earlier?

A lot people drive to the start point and that's perfectly fine. I woudnt say half but probably a good 15-20% drive..... That's the beauty of it. Once you get a few rides under your belt you're inspired to ride eventually....

I agree Its definitly a tough ride coming from the valley.... But that's an excellent reason to get a chapter going in your own area. This goes for all Ridazz who can't make the commute to LA. How awesome would it be if one day we organized a huge all city ride where rides were strong in the valley, southside, east side west side.... And we could combine them all into one massive bike ride.

Seriously, lets take this thing all city. Start a local ride in your neck of the woods. West valley is an excellent place for a ridazz to start up. Fallbrook to burbank to shoup... Ventura blvd. To pierce up de soto to the orangeline I don't know... You guys have big streets!

Promote the rides on the site and help get the party started.

Roadblock
10.27.06 - 1:57 pm

Speaking of chapter in the valley, if anyone has any ideas or needs help planning something in the valley, let me know. I've got a few ideas but no one to plan with. I'm in the NoHo area if anyone's interested. We can do some good long rides out here in the valley because the streets are wide and flat. Rockin ventura blvd. could be fun.

Oh, and are people coming out for Cruz with Us tomorrow night? I've done that before and that shit is fun. Good people on that ride. The ride isn't as long due to the bar hopping, but it's fun rolling up to the bars in a large group of people on bikes. The people at the bars seem a little shocked and curious, but also seem really into it.

brassknuckle

Cruzz With Us is the shit! And the starting point is perfect. NH park is two blocks from the redline. If I miss the last train back.... fuck it I'll roll cahuenga it aint all that scary.

My crew usually starts in Eagle Rock, sometimes we go to Burbank. Sometimes Pasadena. Sometimes Downtown. We might have a few of our rides START in Burbank and head into the Valley, through NoHo.

I'm in canoga park. So its about a fifteen mile ride to NoHo, another 5 to get over the hill, and another, what, 5 to get to silverlake.

I go on the PedalnPubCrawl, ValleyCritMass, and CruzzWithUs regularly, I'm the guy on the grey schwinn with the bullhorn bars. The rest of the time is MidnightRidazz, so its not like I'm hurtin for rides (the third weekend of the month is open...)

I've thought about starting up a ride in the WestValley, but looking at the turnout for the three other valley rides, well, I'm not sure its worth sweating over each month trying to come up with a different route. I figure if valley people were into it, they'd already be showing up at the other rides. And I doubt that many from DTLA would make the trek out here.

So I'm starting to get more involved in suggesting routes for the pedalnpub and cruzzwithus.

Raymond, there were two , I think. The first one I saw wasn't in uniform and was driving a white passenger van that had the city seal and "POLICE" below it on the driver's side door. After that a uniformed officer rolled up in a plainwrap cruiser and then after that a black-and-white arrived with two offficers whocamped out at the other end of the parking lot.

lemme explain a little more...

We were handing out spoke cards when a guy in plain clothes rolled up and asked "Hey guys can I get a route card?" I realized he was a cop because I saw him earlier in the van. He didnt think I saw him and tried to play off at first like he wasnt a cop because he fumbled when I asked him where his bike was and finally he admitted he was a cop and walked over to the uniformed cops. A little later realizing that the cops were gonna follow us no matter what Bootlegger and I went over and gave the uniform cops a route card because they had asked for one earlier. I told the plain clothes cop that I didnt give him a card because he was trying to be sneaky. so bad cop no route card. :)

Funny about the UC cop.

Mechanicals suck, but not too badly when they are close to the start. I had made a comment earlier about that very thing and had just finished a conversation about heavier riders and how bikes and components just don't stand up. Serendipity is a trip.

I wasn't at the back at the begining, so I'm not sure if we were tailed, but I didn't get a sense that we were. I think the black-and-white that was there was just to monitor the gathering in the park's lot.

Agent Orange

so here's my tale of the Gold Line/Red Line...

I didn't want to do a really long ride and I'm in Eagle Rock, so I took the Gold Line to the Red Line, and got off at Vine...and rode to the Pan Pacific...which was all cool...on the way to the finish, I decided I'd better get scooting so I wouldn't have too late of a ride getting home, so I peeled off the ride at around 11:45, and caught the Red Line into downtown (Union Station)...

so, I'm standing there waiting for a train to come in...and at 12:15 one does, but it says Not In Service...it drops some people off...and it leaves...

I ask the Sherrifs (who just finished giving out a ticket to a non paying rider) if there were any more trains coming...they say...the last train was the 11:52...

so, I ride off into the night, through Chinatown and Lincoln Heights and Highland Park...it was a nice, quiet and peaceful ride home

moral of the story...the Gold Line stops at midnight but look for the silver lining

yeah Pasadena residents have really worked hard to make the goldline ineffective... of course I dont know if I'd want a light rail going past my crib if I had a nice house in Pasadena. when traffic finally grinds to a halt, or gas goes sky high, they'll erode away the resident resistence. prolly take another 5-11 years for that to happen.
