Wooden Bikes?

I was just listening to a cycling podcast and they did an interview of a newer bike company http://www.renovobikes.com/. They make wooden bikes. Like rideable real world wood bikes. They look beautiful.

There's some wooden bikes at a bike store in LB.  http://jonesbicycles.com/  This shop is on the green race track that people are going all goo goo about,

If you go in there you'll see 2 or 3 bikes this guy custom made.  These were sold at one time to the public.

Some dude built a bike out of bamboo.  Can be yours if you want it.  CL ftw

There's this DIY site that shows you step by step how to make those bamboo bikes.  Interestingly enough, when executed properly, their tube strength is very similar to that of steel.  Just make sure u put enough resin on those joints or else...

I just want to know WTF is up with the Rear Hub setup, Is that some sort of Internal geare hub with A chain tensioner on it? Just to clear the frame perhaps?
