Indianapolis

Anyone know anything about Indianapolis? Whether there's a riding scene there at all, whether it does or doesn't totally suck. I might have to move there (FML!) cuz my lady got a good and rare job that she really can't turn down and my job's transportable. We know we don't have a long-term future in LA.... but Indiana?! damn.

Pretty much the reason why my stepdad wanted to get out of that area as soon as I was born.
Although we did make a 1.5 year pit-stop in Rolla, ND before coming down to the Southwest in '87.
Other than that, Indianapolis and the rest of Indiana in general is the epitome of stereotypical, MidWestern, laidbackness.

@ great idea about the bike polo club. Haven't played before but have always been thinking it would be fun. Might be a great starting connection out there.
I've done a a bit more research and it sounds like there certainly are worse places in the US. Among other things, 3-4 bdrm houses in the nice areas are around $200k. Can't buy a taco shed out here for that.

Dang, I forgot about Breaking Away.
Yeah, they do ride bikes there. The Major Taylor Velodrome is in town too.
My only experience is running a 5K race in July a few years ago (I was in town for a wedding). After the first mile, the humidity ceased to be fun, and the last 2 miles were a death march.

Can't go wrong with the housing prices out that way.
CA and NY state tend to have the most over-priced and overrated neighborhoods.
Indiana has seasons, but aside from that, it seems to be a nice place to make a living and raise a family if you're into that sort of thing.
Did I mention the superb quality of corn?
Iowa may have lots of it, but Indiana grows the tastiest.

idk maybe im jaded by socal.
the only advantage we have here is the weather.
that's really about it.
of course that's IMO.
i guess if you like getting trashed in hollywood/silverlake it's a different story.

umm, there is EVERYthing wrong with snow. plus the humidity? I'd rather deal with snow.
i guess if you like getting trashed in hollywood/silverlake it's a different story.
So Cal is much much larger than LA my friend. besides you can get trashed anywhere.
we got ocean, mountains and desert all within an hour drive of each other.
everything you could possibly need is right here!
So Cal > everywhere else
(but still NY > LA)

I once had the same thoughts after having been raised in SoCal for most of my life, but after being exposed to Mid-Western America, I find that everyone else lives life much slower and laid back in those areas than everyone does here.
But at the same time, I don't really intend on settling down any where once the gears are turning again, so this argument is moot for myself.
But for the record, PDX>LA>NYC.

I like heat and lots of it, so TX, NM, and AZ take the cake.
CA in general tends to not get as extreme due to having that coastal influence.
Not too exceedingly hot, not too exceedingly cool.

I was born and raised there for 26 years till I moved out here.
I was a large percentage of the cyclists in Indianapolis, definatly one of the top bike geeks by far.
I would suggest Joe's Cycles in the Fountain Square area of downtown. That is the Ridazz shop if any in that town. The owner is my old roomate, and one of the only people in the middle of winter(YES 10 DEGREES) to go for a ride with me.
There is polo, some of the best mountain biking in the country in Southern Indiana. You can go watch the Little 500 and do the Hilly Hundred in October with the amazing foliage. 50 miles each day no real hills= Hilly Hundred.
