Don't forsake the Watts Happening ride for a flash of Lycra! Besides, if you need to get your Amgen on, Stage 6 comes from Santa Barbara and finishes up in Santa Clarita on Saturday mid-afternoon.

I was wondering if anyone was going to address the (apparent) conflict on Sunday. Shit, the Watts ride sounds awesome, but...

I disagree with Agent Orange -- I think your lycra-watching ducats would be way better spent in Long Beach. Watching circuit races is way more exciting than watching the end of a stage race. In Santa Clarita you'll just see the finish. In LB, if you chill in the middle of the dog-bone shaped course you get to see the peloton 20 times, and watch all the break aways, chase groups, crashes (?), and leadouts for the sprints at the end.

Plus the course is only 77 miles, flat, and it's the last stage, so the race will be a blistering pace.

I kinda disdain professional atheletes as a rule, but I was blown away last year. Feeling the asphalt shake as 140 of the fastest motherfuckers on earth go thundering by was pretty cool. So I'm gonna swallow my cynicism, put on my fan boy hat and be there.

Hey, you could concievably do both: join us at noon for the roll to the Watts Towers, then hop on the Blue Line (right around the corner from the Towers) and still get to Long Beach in plenty of time for the projected 3:45 finish. As it's been said before, "with the IAAL-MAF, everyone's a winner!" I'm even a little tempted myself . . .

I dodnt really know about this race but ...
I teach a photo class on sundays in norwalk. One of my students who was ahead on her work, asked for a pass to leave class and go shoot pictures of the bike race for the next assignment. She came back 2hrs later with some badass pix!
I'll post em up later when she turns her assignemnt in.

Nice observation there, it's just a couple years too late.

Amgen makes EPO so that anemic cancer patients can get the red blood cells they need to survive.

It was made to be used by cheating athletes. That's just an unfortunate by product. Get your facts straight.

The folks at Amgen have said time and again that they'd gladly reformulate EPO with a "red flag" element if it wouldn't cost the hundred or so million dollars to get it reapproved by the FDA.

Aside from sponsoring the ToC, Amgen sponsors a lot of different cycling events.
