Social Networks for Bikes

As much as I'm a bike nerd I'm a web junkie. I travel a lot and noticed that tons of cities have super awesome bike cultures and scenes but they all seem to be tied off on their own and there's not a lot of ways for folks from one city to get hooked up in another city. So I thought maybe a social network for bike folks was the answer.
I thought I'd start small and focus on a really niche but obsessive segment of the bike world, or at least the one I know. People who ride fixed gear bikes. So I set up this:

I showed a few folks and have been getting super good reactions to it but I've been hearing, a lot more than I expected, that people really want something like this for everyone, no matter what kinda bike they ride. So I said what the heck and went ahead and threw something together.
WIZZAO!
This is the first place I've mentioned it anywhere, so LA folks will get first crack at it. Tell me what to fix, what to change, etc. Once it gets polished up a bit more we'll show it off to the other cities and get the rest of the world on it. :D

A social network surrounding cycling is tough because it has to succesfully facilitate connections of both the real world variety and the web based 'virtual' variety. Ridazz does this well because it's specifically local (for the most part).
I would look to modify the most succesful example of such a broad social network: Craigslist.

I'm not trying to replace Ridazz at all or in anyway, trying to compliment it by giving it global audience and networking it with other groups. This is definitely NOT like craigslist in anyway, much closer to myspace or facebook if you need to draw similarities. The value here is more the networks that people can create with each other. You don't have "friends" on craigslist.

Wow! seanbonner, you totally missed my point about CL.
If it's supposed to be like MySpace or Facebook, why not use MySpace or Facebook?
I likened it to CL because an online cycling community has both a web based presence and a physical presence (riding). So the website must support an all encompassing blog/forum as well as a variable based on regional bias.
CL does the regional thing very well, but you're right, it's a terrible way to stay in contact with people (friends). On the other hand it's a very succesful tool for making contact with people you don't know.
I wasn't saying CL is the answer, but it has fundamental traits that I percieve to be important for a website such as yours. You asked for opinions, you got 'em. ; )

Because with those sites you are constantly bombarded by people you don't know trying to get you to listen to them band of be a zombie or join their cause or blah blah blah and very little of it actually has to do with things you are interested in. With these it's all bikes, so even if it's someone you don't know chances are there's some common interests.
And sorry for reacting the the CL thing, you mentioned that it was the most successful site like this and I really don't think CL has anything to do with anything that I do other than it's people looking at websites but other than that, no relation at all.

Um boogalooshrimp...I made up that word when I was seven. I have an album out called, "wizzao mommy! yee." One song on that album, called "mackee cheese" was picked up as the soundtrack for an animation short on Sesame Street. It's about counting eight noodles in 4 bowls, which have 4 spoons setting beside them.
The song goes...

The all caps at the end of that song, are supposed signify the songe turning from catchy tune into excited shout, sort of like you hear on 'Barney' and a few other more recent programs for children. They actually kinda stole that technique from me.
Anyways...just thought I'd put my two cents in about the etymology of wizzoa!

When I was a kid, I use to have a Knight Rider big wheel.
It had a hand brake on the side that I would pull as soon as I put my leg over the bars.
I invented the skid stop and the "super gnar" face that accompanies it.

Yeah...that one was pretty much the song on "wizzao mommy, yee" that was good to just sit quitely and listen to, you know. It's one of those songs that is good with some graham crackers and cup of milk...maybe just before nap time.

no way, man. I made it up. The album is out of print, but you can still get it fairly easily on ebay...and albums from the first pressing have become collector's items.
