LA's Draft Bike Plan is out and it needs the gentle touch of the cycling community. Join us this Saturday at 1 pm as we deconstruct and then reshape the Bike Plan so that it really supports the rights of cyclists on the Streets of LA.
Saturday, October 17 @ 1pm at LACC.

Btw. the faculty lounge is on the South side of the campus (north of Monroe). If you enter from Vermont through the main gate, go to the center of the campus and then turn left after the main building. You will see the sign on the building, saying "Faculty/Staff Center/Lounge" right at the CUB Center Bookstore.
You will probably see also a bunch of bikes locked up there in a bunch, so you won't be able to miss it. See you there! :-)

Take a look at the Draft Bike Plan, about halfway through the document are some maps, check to see if the maps are correct for your neighborhood. Even if you only have time to read one chapter, read it and join us on Saturday so we can dig in and make a real Bike Plan!

Seriously, what will it take for people to do bike advocacy work? If a fraction of the time spent on social rides was spent challenging the city on their lack of concern for cyclists we'd all be in a much better position. What's up? What do we do?

The new location, the Hollywood Adventist Church is right off Hollywood Blvd and the 101 Fwy. between Hollywood/Western & Hollywood/Vine Red Line stations.
Also bus 780, 180 & 181 stop near by.

Great meeting and a lot of good information and discussion. Thanks Stephen and Alex for moderating and all the discussion leaders for keeping on point.
We need more ridazz out to these type of events to help our city become the best biking city in the world. Check out the link for more information and try to make it to one of the city sponsored workshops.

what a fantastic group of riders with lots of ideas on how to improve, focus and expand the LA Bike Plan! The next meetings need more people's opinions so we can show we really care about improving our road facilities and keep new riders riding. How about a group ride to the next meeting?

Not sure where funding for this will come from, but measure R will secure about 1.1mil per year for cyclist programs and infrastructure.

This workshop was pretty helpful and helped getting everyone on the same page, for the most part. Definitely needs more participation from the riding public out there.
I'm pretty sure there will be another meeting scheduled. Try to make it this time.
BTW, really would be nice to know the address of that Google map thing that chick made of the proposed bike plan.

The LA Bike Working Group is meeting again, this time after the 4 LADOT held Bike Plan Meetings.
The LA Bike Working Group is ready to create LAs Best Bike Plan and we want you to be part of this! This is your city, your vision counts and your involvement counts!
We are meeting at Santa Monica/Vermont Red Line Station at 12 noon on Saturday the 31st and are heading Downtown for a 1pm LA Bike Working group workshop.

There will be maps for you to draw on. You can have a bike lane wherever you need it. We won't tell you that anything is Infeasible. You can even put down Bike Boulevards or Bike Highways, the sky's the limit.

What's happening with letting mountain bikers use trails in Griffith Park? Do the equestrians still rule and complain about the damage that mountain bikers do to the trails? I just can't believe a mountain bike does more damage than a horse.

Mountain bikes fuck up trails. Horses do too, but horse owners are rich, connected, and vicious when it comes to protecting their hobby/lifestyle.
Further, environmentalists tend to hate humans doing things like mountain biking in a wilderness area and tearing up trails where they are doing their "nature hikes".
Both of these groups would be natural allies in fighting for on-street facilities for transportation cycling. I feel like throwing the concerns of off-road mountain bicyclists in city parks will get us the on-street goodness we need ... so be it!

Wake your asses up on this beatiful morning and stroll on over to the 3rd installment of the Bike Working Group's attempt to arm cyclists with a fearsome planning doc.
