after LACM i sent out a few thank you emails to the LAPD. like many of you, i lived in LA during Rodney King, Rampart and the LA Riots. These were dark days for the LAPD and are never far from mind when i think of the police.
now, i also have officer red riding a tallbike to remember.
i'm posting a few "you're welcome" letters in hopes that this relationship continues to grow and that the department continues to grow into a police department that protects all of its citizens.
im not saying they don't have a long way to go, but its clear to me that they're trying.

I am very pleased that our desire and commitment to working with the cycling community has reaped significant dividends. Over the past several years, our (your) Police Department has made a conscious effort to improve the manner in which we serve the communities we know as Los Angeles. To the question of whether there's yet room for improvement, I simply say yes. However, I am also gratified to know that the strides we have made are making an enormous difference in the lives of people just like you.

Thank you for your kind words and support. It is very encouraging to see how all have come together to improve relationships and safety for the community. We are equally proud of all of you and look forward to a continued relationship of mutual cooperation and respect.
Our goal is to educate our officers and the cycling community to ensure all safety guidelines, rules and laws of the road are followed and enforced equitably and professionally. The bottom line...we want the pedestrian, vehicular and cyclist community to work together so all are safe! We hope that one day soon, all will be on board and these events will be self policed. We have made great progress!
