thank you to everyone behind the curtains. to everyone in front of the curtains and of course, to all those still stuck inside the curtains.. for you:
In a future not so distant
the roads are no longer paved
and the towns' dilapidation
a sore reminder of what will come to pass
For the bleak landscape
of an uneven terrain
mirrors itself
against the thick gray horizon
We, the travelers, caught within
the eye of some storm
are thrown forward and stalled
All of us.
Upon return
we arrive back to our past and are present
our faces stretched, tired and unglued
caked with colors
the designs a palette hardened
with every day's wear
each layer, a chapter
of a future yet to be written
Here, some digested and unraveled
to the core of who they have become
reasserting their presence
amongst themselves
and imprinting moments
a flip book of random stills
Others, voices released, amplified and free
to reverberate the fire round
with stories of the has
and banter with thoughtless reason
all of which a reflection on relationships
whose demons are recognized and purged
or, like a blank canvas, anew
And if for just these few moments
we let go of this reality and become immortal
in hesitation, we look back
on those remaining, left behind
a chorus of ignorance by which
we had been subjected to
thus carrying forth stories of a historic future
upon our silenced tongues
For here
under the calming quiet of the stars
we pause in thought
on a shared necessity of horror:
the port-o-pots
