We will have 2 groups, one for slower riders, and one for faster riders. Caturday becomes a cat and mouse game. Slower riders will have a 15 minute headstart. Faster pack will be l start 10-15 minute after the slow group. Fast group is welcome to ride as fast as they wish. At each regroup point, the fast group will have a 15 minute break. The slow group must take off as soon as the fast group arrives. The leader of the slow pack will change every stop. This will ensure that MOST riders are able to enjoy the same route at two different levels of competition.

i cant drive because of the vicodin and also because i can barely focus on what was happening on Law & Order SVU today...haha but once i can get over that...i'm down to be support car and film! i haven't made a film in a while and i'm too down
i'll be hitting this shit up every saturday that i don't have an ALC training ride on Saturday (Team Midnight Ridazz is currently alternating between saturdays and sundays)
You have to ride in the rain. Remember, we made fun of the other people who flaked out on the last rain ride. And what's the deal with Caturday getting rained on twice?
if the ride was moved to sunday or the route was changed this week it would be good for me, I really don't want to miss out on big tajunga but I'm gone saturday
yea forecast isn't looking good. i still dont want to ride in the rain after last time. sunday is scheduled for pm sun which means it might be overcast in the morning.
i should also check for snow elevation levels, just in case.
Killradio with Jim C. at 10-12am. I am torn because this cuts into my big saturday rides. I have been talking with Jim about doing a more tech only oriented killradio program later on sat. or during the week one night. I would be down for some of these Caturday 100k+, but you know I don't like waiting for peeps at the tops of climbs. I will wait up to 5 minutes then I just get frustrated. I guess I could just decend to the last rider and climb more. Anyone want to do Everest Challenge this year? Last year was my first in 4 years I missed due to a 97 Honda Accord that so graciously got in my way during interval training on Ventura.

I'm down for Big T on sunday. Would you want to start the ride from my house? Coffee? Pastries? near NOHO and Universal stations. I am planing on riding on sunday anyway. 8am roll out. Let me know. I will have some fast guys rolling with us. So we might break off once we get to harder par to of the climb at the top.
The dark century, the one last winter, took place in pouring rain...for the whole ride. At, one point, we were dunking our feet, up to our ankles, with water...on every pedal revolution. And, only three people dropped off. ALL of the people who have done all of the dark centuries say that the ride in the rain, in January, is their favorite one...just because it was hard to do. And, all of the people who have only done two or three dark centuries... and even the new people who made it say the same thing. Rain shouldn't be an event to cancel a 62 mile ride...let alone a longer ride. This is my opinion. I will ride a Caturday you all when I'm back in the area.

I think rides like these should embrace the weather conditions.
Rain riding in the mountains is different than in the city. I love ridng in the rain. I try to get out every time its raining. Feels like being back in the midwest in the spring and fall.
awesome, parlorbikes....I feel the same way you do, somewhat....but CATURDAY METRIC isn't the only group to ride in the mountains. In fact, the badger song made a habit of riding from our meetup to GMR...and sometimes on to Glendora Ridge Road every so often. If there was rain...and we were gonna ride GMR....we did it: rain, fog, sleet, and all. Look at the past threads for the Badger Song...not that we posted on MR, much...but you will find that we thrived in the mountains on roads open to traffic...in the rain.
I'm not trying to tell everyone that they have to do this...I'm just saying it's possible and fun.
GMR is a great place to test the handling skills of any bike/wheels/brakes/tires/etc..... I love some of the off camber switchbacks. Just watch for wet paint lines. I found out I didn't like my SRAM Red brakes last time I was there.
high humidity at high elevation is poor visibility and for people that haven't been down that road, we dont want a repeat of last week in low visibility.

mitch yeah i leave from noho all the time, you could always even park at my place because i heard metro was cracking down even though i dont know how you enforce parking in such a large area as that.
Noho at 7:50 regroup sounds good. The love ride that meets at Gene Autry on sundays goes up La Tuna. I think they meet at 8:00
Maybe we will see them, Usually about a 100+ riders.

Cold, cold, early, cold, freezing, hill, icy death, only 51 miles, i'm burnt. saw the ALC team, no other riders in the mountains, peak elevation 3686 ft? rain, cold rain, freezing rain, i can't see 10 feet in front of me, flat on a descent, rain rain rain...
oh my god the ride back to santa monica was brutal, i flipped out at some car who was honking at me (i think embarassed ryan a little) and used the anger to go really fast.
Then we got to santa monica and the headwind started bitch slapping us, that was slow going for sure.
Ah good ride I feel great, I might be in trouble for wolf pack tomorrow though.
up to mt wilson observatory is pending i dont goto salton, we may be off for a week, keep posted. the week after that, i was thinking we could get an early start, do a loop around simi and come down to watch the TDC circuit laps.

haha and teh ALC ride was riding along foothill i think, couldn't handle the big climb. good job i know its higher than most of you have ever been especially in LA county. fun fun fun. caturday is easily my new favorite ride (and i'm not just saying that because its my ride).
what started out as me davrick and sancho1, now grows into something more, and everyone is developing as they ride.
i ended up going to dinner over the hill in k-town mm another delicious 20 miles.
i didn't realize until i was riding back over cahuenga that i was completely done and walked the last 200ft of cahuenga.
seriously you first timers, have a new-found respect in my book.

I want to continue this caturday metric, but create another Speed Sunday, for a shorter, but faster paced ride, more or less with the old school bicykiller crew. so if saturday's don't work out for you christian, frank, or ilya, i would love to set up a routine sunday ride with a few of the caturday guys by invitation only.

Driving is not necessary, the time you spend in the car you could be riding. Driving to go riding is for Mtn bikers.
It's all about the routes and time of day.
There is plenty of great riding in the Santa monica mtns,and Angeles crest area.
Save the city traffic riding for the fixie hipsters.
For a humbling experience you guys should try the
SIMI RIDE on sat. mornings, 60+ miles race pace.
This is a winter ride that will end soon, so get your ass out there.
If you can hang you will be able to race this year.
Chances are you will all get dropped due to poor pack skills
no squids allowed, you will get yelled at when you squirl out.
This is the real thing as many teams show.
YO theres a group riding on the 21st to mill creek summit from csun approximately 80+ miles. not for the faint of heart. this will take us to teh route to see the TDC as thgey head down to san diego. its gonna be fuuuun. heres the route:

It would just be a good experience before the season starts.
Next year you can go again, using it as a gauge to see if your fitness improved. Most riders dont finish there first few times,

stupid stupid me decided to race some guy down santa monica from westwood to la brea. sure i was bundled up in layers, and he had a skinsuit, and we were head to head, up until about la cienega. if he didnt burst out with 1300w, then i dont know how but he fucking scorched me on the last leg. bastard hurt my ego.
sunday may be a maybe, after the big ride we should take some recovery time.
support car will be available please bring 5-10 bucks for support car gas. support car will carry all equipment and food products and water, so we dont have to stop hurrah!!!!!!!
