Cops chase ridazz out of Pan-Pacific.

So, while buzzing the skies in my AWACS/MC-135(aka Freightliner), I got bored and decided to get a 20 on fuzzbeast and whomever else was roving the surface-streets.
He tells me that the Peoples Ride was just kicked out of Pan Pacific around 23:30 Hrs(11:30PM).
Seems strange to me in the sense that this has never actually happened in that fashion before.

yeah, i left the ride right as this was happening. the cops were driving into the park. when everyone yelled FIVE OH people started throwing their beer bottles into the bushes and whatnot and there was a lot of broken glass. and people peeing on the fucking playground instead of in the bushes. but whatever, im just a hater.

Seems like the typical reaction of MR-Forces towards indigenous personnel.
If we had a couple of SG-units on the ground, then this type of bug-out wouldn't have been necessary.
Oh well, that's what you get when the SG-unit has been recalled to base for night-observation duties.

It seems unlikely that the cops would have come into Pan Pacific if it weren't for the incident in the Grove. The combination of the ghetto bird (which I assume was in response to the rent-a-cops calling the real cops) and the fireworks was probably the main give-away.
Right around the time that they started spotlighting the Grove, theroyalacademy and I went back to go check on stillline (who'd gotten pulled over for running a red on Melrose/Fairfax), and at that point, the streets were just swarming with cops. One was driving right by the park as the fireworks went off. The ghetto bird had probably seen everyone in the park already, but y'know... ooops.
So what happened in the aftermath of all the Grove/Pan-Pacific crackdown? Did anyone get arrested or detained?

I counted 13 patrol cars at one point. Also a police helicopter flew over.
It was just surreal to watch the police cars roll in one after the other. That must've been some high-priority call that got sent out.

No one stopped when Stillline got pulled over. No one. (Including, yes, myself.) That fucking sucks. Somebody should at least keep an eye out from a short distance to make sure that interaction doesn't go south.
No rida left behind..........

I waited at the Grove with a few other riders for the two detained riders. One guy was named James, and he was tackled from his bike.
When the 28 or 30 cops showed up, and the Sargent in charge found out it was bicycles, not armed robbers (such as the guys who have been robbing people getting off of work on Melrose for over a month and have yet to be caught), they kind of did a conference and let both riders go.
Yes they called a chopper in too. We heard the fireworks go off. That didn't help the situation.
By the time we got down to Pan Pacific, it had been abandoned, with only a couple of beer cans left on the benches.

its all about asserting cyclists rights to the road by drinking in parking lots.
right when we got to the grove a bunch of riders decided to go ride down the sidewalk instead of staying on the street and two or three guys got detained. the cops were basically like "shut the fuck up and leave and we will let them go" but people kept yelling stupid shit to the police and not leaving. one guy that was detained was pleading with people to leave so he wouldnt get ticketed/arrested. i hope that guy got off with just a warning or whatever.
the best part of the ride was the old guy in the white truck backing into the civic in the ralphs parking lot because he was too distracted by cyclists to see a car behind him.

Matt's OK, I talked to him on the phone.
I didn't see him getting a ticket, but I would have stopped if I did.
I did see the guy get tackled from his bike at the Grove.
Car traffic was bad tonight, both during LACM and The People's Ride, with over 200 bicycles taking up the streets, the drivers were irate.
The cops were called by the time we hit the first LACM stop at Jon's Market on Santa Monica Blvd and Western Ave.
By the time the People's Ride rode down Hollywood Blvd., it was pandemonium.
We are overwhelming the streets with bicycles. They are not used to it. We are traffic.

Leaving LACM to get tacos was good. And then leaving the Peepul's Ride to go get donuts was pretty awesome too.
The high point of the actual riding was the homeless dude on a skateboard skitching on Stillline's tall bike....... right before he made the left on red.

Don't get scared by theroyalacademy's tall horse, he didn't stop and wait for either of the riders that were detained at the grove.
WTF is with all this humbuggery!? Last night was pretty typical in my opinion. We went unmolested until we pushed too many legal buttons. We've been told by cops and security not to ride through the grove, but we still do it. You wanna poke the pigs with sticks, you better be prepared to practice evasion. You wanna make left turns on a red.....Mathew (love ya)?? You're subjecting yourself to the whims of the donut party.
We didn't get bothered the whole time we were up on Hollywood blvd (kinda rare) and the cops put on a show at the grove, but ultimately let both people go. All the pee pee antics and litter bug jitter bug, that's an internal matter amongst ridazz, so say something when you see it, not the morning after on the anonymizer.
I, for one, had a good time, even after the ride split into two groups. We regrouped at the bike district and continued on our merry way.

Not sure what the solution is
Based on that recent thread about Mexico City, I say we all move down there and form a giant cyclist community. We take over a whole region. Buying up all the property, and we make our utopia happen.

Seems to me, eh..pertaining to all previous rides, a pattern has presented its self, leaving us all feeling askew.
It seems, our disposition with the l.a.p.d. is all but in the clear.
This is a mark we will brandish for quite some time...And only through habitual restraint and un-marked awareness will we then
recieve our portion of unnotice.
Anyways. FUCK IT!!!!!!

I'm going to the police station either today or tomorrow and formally filing a complaint against the cop that bodyslammed JAMES (anyone have his email or phone number?)
There were 2 surveillance cameras at the location and one had to have been facing on Banana Republic when it happened.
I witnessed it and something has to be done.

At the Grove, there were a lot of people stopped together with the two detained people. When Matt got pulled over (for making a stupid turn, yes, but he wasn't the only one to do it), people started yelling, "Keep going! Keep going!" and we all, apparently, left him alone there.
I don't claim to always do the right thing. My pavlovian response when I see cops is to get the hell out of there. I think that is most people's reaction. I am just saying that we need to remember that other people could be in trouble and that we should watch out for them, even if that trouble is of their own making. This is something we already know, but we don't always do.

I don't think James wants to pursue the issue with LAPD at this point. I didn't get his phone number, and he helped me with my flat. Thanks James.
I was talking to him as we rode towards the bike kitchen to meet up with the rest of the group. He was released after the watch supervisor came and saw how ridiculous it was to hold a bicyclist with 30 cops milling around. Not a good picture politically for a city that has been gripped by armed robberies recently. James is going to have a great story to tell his kids one day. Thirty cops called in to take him down. Yeah he was once a badass. Though the indention marks from the handcuffs will be long gone.

I may be the only one that saw what happened to him......He should really pursue it. How much abuse can we take? The cop jumped out from behind the light post and slammed him into the store like it was a football game.
Same goes for the rookie bald white cop that stopped us twice skidding in front of the pack both times on the veganbananapenis ride. They continue to do it because we don't report any of it.

Yeah, Last night a couple of us were talking, it's probably good that we lay off using Pan Pacific Park as a stop for a while. We've been chased out of there the last 2 or 3 times we were in there (of course that was in like a week), we've been hitting it several times a week for a while now. It's starting to become obvious that we like to hang there, and an easy target. Last night was absurd, true, however, it's becoming clear that "they" know we have been using the park a bunch at night. Let's lay off it as a stop for a while.
Besides, I think, in general, we need to do a couple things with rides, I think, one, we need to find new spots, in general, to hang out, Griffith Park on LACM last night was awesome, a new spot, chill and enjoyable.
The city of Los Angeles is 432 sq miles by itself, not to mention the other cities it surrounds, borders, lies adjacent to, etc., I think we can come up with more places to hang out than the like 5 or 10 we habitually go to. I know we can come up with better ones, newer ones, more interesting ones.
I also think we need to think of something better to do at stops that just stand around getting wasted. Sure it's fun to get drunk, high, whatever, however, the fact that we tend to be doing that so much definitely will not contribute to our public image. I don't know what that could be that we could do, but I bet it could be F.U.N.. We need to make stops about being other than getting smashed.
Being that the first thing people wanted to do on critical mass last night, less than 5 minutes after we left Wilshire/Western was stop and get more booze, I think we need to make some evaluation of our practices.
I'm not saying we need temperance movement among ridazz, prohibition is the opposite of what I'm saying, what I am saying is, let's try to be a little more responsible. This includes PLANNING (yes, a ride takes more than just posting it on the calendar), and one of the things that I think we need to do is plan a little more for rides. Lets get back to having themes people can get into, things that will make people want to dress up or get into the theme for, honestly, it makes people care more about the ride they are on, it's not just another x night booze cruise. And this planning includes routes too. Let's look for new streets we don't ride much, and try to bring some newness and wonder back. If we're going new places, people are less apt to be blackout drunk and pissing on each other.
I dunno, I guess I'm ranting a bit, but I feel like some of that needed to be said.
