Radiohead Hollywood Bowl Shows ride

I was reading an interview with Thom Yorke in Wired magazine where he mentioned the bands efforts to minimize the CO2 impact of their tours. He mentioned that the bulk of the CO2 production was from fans and their cars. He said that this was especially a problem with the tours in the States. I started thinking about how to get Angelenos out of their cars for the upcoming August shows. I think a Ridazz event would be perfect especially if it had support from the band (free aftershow for riders, band attended pre concert ride). I've posted on the Radiohead message board and set up an e-mail contact (radioheadbikebrigade@yahoo.com) I plan on riding to the concert from home but I'd like to help organize a ride and get it endorsed by the band and maybe replicated at other cities on their tour. Any ideas?
Thanks,

(also, i didn't have tickets the last two times they were at the bowl, but still got in *wink wink*. so, a possiblity.)

@Delnorte
Way to take some initiative on this. It would be incredible if the band endorsed the ride, and monumental if they participated! This is definitely something that could catch on for other bands/shows too.
I'm not really much of a concert goer myself, but I'll go on this ride for sure. Keep us posted!

All my response to date has been overwhelmingly positive but mainly from this forum. I haven't heard much from the radiohead message board or radioheadbikebrigade@yahoo.com. I think the key is to get the idea passed onto Thom and the band or their management in order to get them to actually support and ride with us. Call me crazy, but I don't think that is too far fetched of a goal. I'm not sure how to contact them outside of their message board event. I do need some advice/help with planning the ride and the route since I've never done it. I like the idea of people riding whether they're fans or have tickets to the show and converging on the Bowl for an after ride party.

the good thing about the bowl is that if we go and some of us don't have tickets there is a big outdoor area you can drink at right before the entrance!
i can totally help with a route or anything like that. . .

Great, I'm open for route suggestions. The ride needs to get to the Bowl by around 8 pm. There is an opening act but Radiohead probably won't take the stage until after 9 pm. The ride could continue during the show for all non ticket holders and loop back after the show for the ride home or just wait until the show's end and then continue after the show. Suggestions?

How much are the tix, if not super sold out already? BTW if we can't get in , I have plenty of spots in the back of the bowl where we can ride up and watch comfortably. (on the other hand I also know a few kids that work at the bowl, that will probably be letting me plus 3 in....Holla

It's a big venue so i'm going to guess they'll start ON TIME. The Liars will probably go on exactly when the tickets say so.. .annnd i wouldn't mind seeing them... it'd be good if we could hang out and sit around in the front area with the people who can't get in. So getting there at 7pm would be nice. Since it's a Sunday we can even make it a long fun ride!!! The people who can't get in can go to Skano's spots... or just, like, down the hill to a bar or something? I don't know...

I am planning to do this ride, sans ducat.
The show will start on time and they have to end on time too. There are stiff fines for noise pollution after 10:30 or so due to the homes up the hill.
I'm packing a picnic and there is a handy 711 just down the hill for beer and other "must keep cold" items.

I hear you with the start times. My tickets are for the monday night show. Ideally, I'd like to have a ride for both nights but organizing an early ride on monday in order to make the posted 7:30 showtime may prove challenging for the 9-5 crowd. I agree that sunday would be the more desirable day for a long leisurely pre concert ride. I'm leaning toward an organized sunday ride and something more relaxed and short for monday. I'm still open for route suggestions leading to the Bowl. I'd like to do a little detective work and find out what hotel the band is staying and run the route by it. Hopefully, cajole the band into joining the ride to the Bowl.

As they embark on the first leg of their 2008 tour, Radiohead are appealing to fans to think about how they travel to and from shows.
Last year, the band commissioned carbon footprint analysts Best Foot Forward to calculate the carbon impact of two of their US tours from 2003. The report showed that fan travel to and from the shows makes the greatest impact on the CO2 generation of a tour, something which is now widely accepted across the industry.
Following on from the report’s recommendations, Radiohead are encouraging fans to consider public transport or increased car sharing. Where possible, the band has booked city centre shows with good transport links to make it easier for fans to get out of the car.
A new section on the Radiohead site has been set up offering travel information to the venues. Fans can plan their journey by visiting an online calculator, which shows the CO2 generated by different methods of transport.
Feedback and more local travel information is encouraged through the online community waste-central. After the tour, ticket holders will be invited to submit information on their methods of travel so more research can be done in this area.
Radiohead’s production crew will also be posting information on how the band are trying to reduce their own touring carbon emissions without compromising the quality of the shows.

I'm starting to think I'm going to be leading this ride.
As for people who don't have tickets they're going for an arm and a leg and I'm pretty sure that "idio-cinematic-deal" is only good for un-sold out shows. THAT SAID they MAY have tickets AT THE BOWL the day of... which would kind of negate a ride. I don't know. But still if someone can still lead the ticketless up into the hillz that'd be nice.
