Yes it happens to everyone I've talked to using OSX and firefox. It only happens on specific threads such as the Cubcamp thread. It does not effect Safari or apparently anyone running Windows. It's annoying as hell.

its the embedded videos from youtube. disable them and your problem will be solved.

No freezups on either the Cubcamp or CRANKMOB thread k ?
Maybe it's not an issue with firefox and 10.5,
Richie and I running 10.4 and I think Ashira is running 10.3

for the record, Linux is unaffected by this.
you got problems with flash then install Flashblock plugin. allows you to blacklist every flash object by default then selectively enable on a site by site or object by object basis. very handy.

flash your blockers!!
the same thing happens to me on my work computer (HA!) firefox & OSX 10.4, i'll c&p system info tomorrow morning..
most likely has something to do with either the embeded videos or googlemaps..IMO

When my computer jams on MR, at the bottom of the frame is invariably a message "Loading from maps.google.com ... " or "Loading from YouTube.com ... ". Something to that effect. The longer the thread, the more stuffs have been posted to it, the more likely it is to jam.
And jam time means dance party where I work, so I just crank up the music and shout:
JIMMY JAM!

so how long can you put meat in the freezer? will it taste like new when i defrost it?

Yeah what lackflag said ^^^
I just open numerous tabs and let them load up while I'm viewing one thread. So each thread has it's own tab.
My puter isn't slow and neither is the connection. It's just the threads have stuff that wants to load up before you can view the thread.

Interesting Allen,
So you open up a bunch of MR web pages, each with their own thread and you just keep refreshing the page by using the refresh button on the BROWSER and not the 'refresh' button on the left above all the threads. Very clever. Correct me if i'm wrong...

for what its worth, I have no such problems in Safari on 10.4 or 10.5

I had this problem too. Forget if it was only on my mac or on both.
It was related to the you tube videos.
Especially on the front page.
I have the Firefox add on....add block plus.
I blocked some videos from loading......after watching and loving them thank you. Since they don't load things are quite zipppppyyyyyyy.

I'm at home watching Price is Right and eating Celery. Everything is working fine.
What?

Stevo,
What I do is go to http://www.midnightridazz.com/forums.php , which will be the hottest thread at that moment. From there I click with the scroll button on my mouse for all the threads on the left I want to read. This button opens each thread in a separate tabs. I don't refresh after reading the thread, I just close them out. If it's a thread that is pretty hot and is getting hits, then yeah I refresh it. The refresh buttons work all the same, even hitting F5 key does the same thing.
So what this does is that it gives you a thread to read while the others load up.

It sounds like you're using firefox on a mac os x pre lepoard. I've never had any freezes on my macbook using the Camaro Browser. Check out this website on a camaro browser (which is mozilla with adblocking) and you're set. I've used this site on camaro (www.camarobrowser.org) and I've been money regardless of flash embeds. Regardless of which OSX version you're using, Camaro works fine for stuff like this.

I've never heard of Camaro browser but I used to use Camino which is Mozilla based, I think that is what your talking about. It was a good browser but after a few HD failures I just never remembered to reload it.

My Firefox freezes only on the CRANK MOB thread.
Seriously.
I think it still remembers my last hangover and tries to protect me.
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.1.11) Gecko/20071127 Firefox/2.0.0.11
I have 2 gigs of RAM
Firefox for Macs comes with the hangover blocker plug-in.
No probs with the Cubcamps thread which has 852 posts.

I stand corrected by Franz. I meant Camino browser [caminobrowser.org].
sbt. I keep getting the words camino and camaro mixed =(
But on a mac, it's a useful mozilla browser and never looked back to any other browser since.

just a word of note, this site isnt the first to have problems with the YouTube embeds, I know they pretty much had to block them from LAF a while back because it was killing not only people's browsers but parts of the server too.
So in the spirit of all that's American, let's blame the other guy! Blame YouTube!
