Yeah, man, this is weird. Four years ago I was in D.C. protesting the second inauguration of Bush. Now I'm watching the inauguration on TV hoping that the honeymoon lasts for a while. And hoping beyond all hope that Obama doesn't fuck up as badly as I think he's going to fuck up on the question of the banking crisis (i.e., propping up banks that should fail, and trying to solve the "problem" of housing prices returning to fundamental value). C'mon, Obama, you're supposed to be the smart one. I want to like you! Fuck!

Forgot to mention this: when I was over there in 2005, I stayed in a hostel. When I left that morning to go to the inaugural parade, the manager asked me where I was going and when I told him, he gave me an egg to throw. Somehow I doubt that anything like that would happen this morning.

The Bush Tragedy is an excellent book, actually quite humanizing, and traces the Bush family history and digs into how and why GWB became the biggest presidential fuck-up in the history of the US.
One thing that kind of blows me away is that I have little doubt that we have Obama as a president because of Bush. Period.
It was only because of Bush's fuckups and cluster-fucks that he got (s)elected. If it had been Al Gore, I have no doubt that we'd be seeing HilRod as the first Female President.
If it had been Kerry we'd just be waking up from teh coma we slipped into during his renaguration speech.
Anyway,
Sometimes it takes things getting really bad to get really good.
The comfort of the Clinton era led to the complacency that allowed Bush to sneak in.
I truly think Obama is the best person we have seen in this position in a lifetime.
So for that.
