'yes', post that info from Baxter. A couple months back he was telling me about that place (it's down in OC or something). I of course forgot the name by the time I got home.

thanks!

Olympic Powder Coating Link:

Heres the link they're down in the OC, but have the best prices and the quality is very good. its as cheap as $60 for the frame and fork.
and i believe for custom colors is closer to $100

Powder coating can be one of the best ways to paint your bike, wheels, stem etc, as long as they are Metal.. If you go to the olympic powder coating website they explain it all.

They look like they only do sand blasting. If you have an aluminum frame I'd look for one that does media blasting instead.

A sand blasted frame may get too much material blasted off. Also get a group of frames to go in at one time, it's generally cheaper than just doing a single frame.

for aluminum frames they chemically strip them.

The reason you need to go with a powdercoater who knows how to paint bicycles is that there is heat involved and too much can ruin a frame, especially aluminum. If Olympic does bicycles regularly and is aware of this (they probably are), they sound like a great option.

If you want the best in the US, send your frame to Spectrum in Colorado Springs, CO.

Expect to spend $400 and up if you send a frame/fork to them though.

yeah..studio..thanks so much! Im totally calling them tomarrow..also do you know about how long they'll have my bike for?..cuz I love her..and will miss her wonderfulness..and hopefully, even tho I want a custom color, it wont be quite a $100 cuz I only want the frame done..not the fork...sooo hurray!..pretty bike soon! I hope theyre just good on the whole bottom brack and steerer tube holes..and not getting paint in them...

I've used Olympic Powdercoating and I am very happy with the results. I brought a 81 Univega and had it powdercoated purple with a glaze, candy purple is what they called it. They painted my frame, fork and cranks for a little over a hundred. It cost a little more because the glazing process was a seperate and additional step, kinda like clearcoat.

If I remember correctly, there are a set of common colors that they will charge somewhere around 75 dollars for the frame and fork. Then there are other colors that take more work and they charge around 85 to 90. Other parts like cranks will cost extra. The turn around time is around 4 days for common colors.

As others have posted, Olympic will strip the old paint off either using silica or chemicals. They are very knowledgeable when it comes to painting bikes since local major mountain bike builder uses them a lot. I highly recommend them. In fact I will be taking my 84 Bianchi road frame to them as soon as I shave off the derailleur stuff.

I have used R&R powdercoating before and they are great.

Rob is the owner, and guy you want to talk to. He has done my frame/fork/bars/cranks HOT pink-100$ (see gallery photo of bmxer jumping the barrier at lacc, thats me/the bike)

He has also done my recent bike all Mint/pistachio green. Frame/Fork/bars/cranks AND aluminum rims. Powdercoating heat wont mess your bike up. I procceded to paint a Tile pattern over it with spray paint. I will post pictures in my profile.

The heat involved in powdercoating will not be an issue if the heat is controlled properly. The characteristcs/chemical makeup/properties of most metals/alloys can be changed by significant heat. Of course that varies from material to type of tubesets used. If Rob at R&R or any other powdercoater knows what they are doing with varied bicycle frames, the heat will not be a problem because it will be controlled correctly for what is being painted.

I was wondering who was in that snapshot. If you ever want a full res of it, post your email address and I'll send it. My favorite part of that photo other than the cool move is the wrench.

Olympic Powdercoating is the BEST.
They have major accounts with the hottest MTB brands made in California. They have coated for GT, Turner, Intense, Foes, Chumba, Shimano, and seriously the list will go on. I have had a 3 frames done custom there and the quality is perfect. Way too many colors to choose from and customs available for more dollars. Unless driving to Santa Ana is impossible I wouldn't go anywhere else for a bike frame.
