While we've got the Camera folk's attention, can anybody recommend a good point & shoot for $100 or so?

THE STRING WOULD STILL TRANSFER THE VIBRATION, CONSIDERING THAT THE GROUND NEVER MOVES, WHAT MIGHT WORK BETTER IS SOME KINDA BUNGIE CORD TO THE TOP POST, YOUD STILL HAVE TO HOLD IT IN YOUR HANDS.

I would try this trick but he didn't tell us what kind of knot to use on the washer.

Yeah, if the bike is shaking, a string to the handlebars will still transfer that shaking to the camera. I always wondered how effective it would be to attach a cheapo counterweight-style steadicam like this to the handlebars. You'd still have some vertical shaking, but maybe you could damp that with some kind of shock absorber.

For all the cmob videos I just used my little point and shoot, kept a safe distance from others and went no handed while keeping a keen eye out for bumps / obstructions in the road.

My dumb ass lost that little point and shoot though (at home, not even on a ride), I think I'm going to check out one of those $100 mini HD pocket camcorders. I've been hankering to make another vid.

I know, they've got the 8mp sale for just a few bucks more.

I may be headed over there myself.

Does anyone make a digital SLR without fuck loads of menus, multi-function buttons, and other bullshit like digital filters, digital zoom, and automatic whatever?

It should accept Minolta bayonet mount lenses so I don't have to buy a half dozen new ones.

That's a pretty neat trick, and if it helps you get good pictures that's great. Personally, I like to let my camera shake.

I've also heard of "mono-pods" where you simply hold it downward and you're set!!

@Mook

I just got a D60, which seems to have a pretty good/simple user interface. Also I found & downloaded the "D60 for Dummies" (in PDF format) and casually read through it in 2 days. If you have even the slightest knowledge of photography you'll be able to skim through it and know the entire camera front to back in no time, and most importantly I found the camera for a great price through Amazon.

Also check out the Canon 450D (Rebel XSi) as a slightly more expensive (and damn good) entry level DSLR.

If anyone wants the PDF file of "D60 for Dummies" email me and I'll send you a link where you can download it.
