Rain vs. Leather Saddle

I just put an Ideale saddle on my city bike and DAMN is it comfortable. I know, I said that the Regal is my favorite and I would never change, blah blah... Please ignore that. I need to stop talking so damn much... So, with my foot in my mouth, I would like to ask will the coming rain ruin my leather saddle? I have fenders on my bike and I will probably be out in the wet for a couple hours at the most (just riding to and from work). During the day, my bike will be inside. So will it be okay?

Yo man, you just need to get a good saddle cover. I carry (I'm currently sold out) Aardvark saddle covers. They work really well - like neoprene. If you use a fender i nthe rear, that helps a lot too - it keeps water off of the underside of the saddle.

Your bottom and fenders will be good cover as you ride. Once you get off... wipe it down really well and use a shower cap or plastic bag for now to cover it. You can store the shower cap/bag under your saddle.. on the rails maybe. Proofhide it well. I've read a crease can form right down the middle if you're not too careful.

Then why even reply at all? That's a question that has puzzled me since I started using internet forums back at the turn of the century. At least this forum is better than the craigslist bike forum. There the smartass to answer ratio is at least 20:1.

yo can.. know its an expensive seat and all but i would waterproof that bad boy. only side effect is it COULD darken your leather. ive used it on fabric NIKEs and my leather Asolo hiking boots and it works amazing i dont see why it would do you justice. super easy to apply and its no more than 9 dollars and its good for 4 shoes so i would say 10 saddles

Maybe purchasing something waterproof would help your cause. Or do you 'need' leather?

I got said saddle for $10. It looks old as dirt and has someone else's ass groove in it. I love old stuff, and it's extremely comfortable, so I'd like to use it. It did fine last night so I think just riding on it and having my fenders is keeping it dry enough.

That should work. Keep a plastic bag handy if you have to park outside in the rain.
