damn, I so totally wanted to do this shit. too bad I have something that I cannot miss and have to be like awake/alert (and home) for the next day (that 120 thousand dollar grad school price tag kinda hinges on it...)

I may be crazy, but I can't take more time off work right now and I'm gonna be rolling into work after riding 100 miles!!! Oh, yeah, I just looked in the mirror, I am crazy.
talk about a coffee day!!!

can i sleep at someones house for a few hours on tuesday morning so i dont pass out behind the wheel back up to ojai?
also, should i do this on my fixie? it looks like a smash up of the commerce ride, the two piers ride, the encino ride, and that one that goes by the vivid video building.

I am new to the fixie thing, but I have riden mine 30 miles and my butt is sore and legs are beat at the end.
I suggest that if you have a multi-gear road bike, that is the best steed to do 100 miles with. You will thank yourself at about, oh...70 miles.

ive done a century with my gearzz before. ive ridden my gearzz up front with the wolfpack as well. but i sort of want something different...

damn damn damn.... I SOOO want to do this
I mean, I suppose I COULD just skip both my classes and make my meeting at 4, but that just seems so irresponsible... dunno, we'll see.
100 miles of hustle into the middle of the night, another hour home on the bus, almost zero sleep, two classes and a meeting upon which my degree hinges in less than 18 hrs, it might be possible, might no, we'll see how I feel about it come monday.
FuzzBeast11.1.07 - 1:12 pm
reply
hey FUZZ think of it like this.... in 10 years no one will care that you went to school much less that you skipped a couple classes... but YOU will always remember your first WOLFPACK ALL CITY CENTURY
Roadblock11.1.07 - 1:43 pm
reply
Re: fixed gear questions.
FWIW, I did the Dark Century fixed. I made it, but it sucked. I mean the ride was awesome, but pushing 78 gear inches and trying to keep a decent cadence at mile 85 at 4:00am when I was exhausted, exhausted, pissed off, and exhausted was not my most glorious moment. It was one of those special "hate the world" times.
If ya got gears, ride 'em. If ya only got a fixed, then be hardcore and do it.

Wolfpack, giving out advice to live by. Ha!
City Hobgoblin11.1.07 - 1:52 pm
reply
I agree - fuck school and degrees and money, experiences and what you actually do with your life is what matters and what you remember.
That said...
Which would you think would be a better bike to attempt this with:
A - super light fixed gear road bike
B - rather heavy and bulky, yet geared mountain bike
??
seanbonner11.1.07 - 2:06 pm
reply
How about putting a freewheel and brakes on your fix gear? Best option I think.
sc_nomad11.1.07 - 2:09 pm
reply
About what time do you think the ride will be done?? I have to fly to NY on the 6th for work and if the flight is not too early, I'm gonna go for it!!
Limeyfly11.1.07 - 2:13 pm
reply
Best time will be around 5 1/2 - 6 hours. But 7 will probably be the norm.
sc_nomad11.1.07 - 2:15 pm
reply
@seanbonner -- hmm.. depends how heavy bulky and what type of tires you have on your mtn bike, and what you're most comfy on for long distances. If your mtn bike has reasonably narrow, high pressure slicks and no suspension, you might consider that. Otherwise, go fixed road. IMHO.
Probably fixed.
City Hobgoblin11.1.07 - 2:48 pm
reply
if we average 20mph we can do it in 5.5 hours... I dont see a problem with that. I dont plan on taking the usual 10-15 minute breaks. I gots to work the next day!
Roadblock11.1.07 - 2:52 pm

I'm scared!
It looks like a great route and a load of fun. 7-11 stops are good because they have bananas.

Call me crazy but i'm doing the wolfpack century, going to work the next day with no sleep and then on Saturday doing the LA to SD early ride. Just have the ambulance waiting for me in San Diego.

Well, hope y'all have a blast and take plenty of pictures.
I still don't know what my regular work schedule is.
On top of that, I've got a Border Patrol exam on Monday morning, and a Dept. of Corrections P.O.P.E. exam on Tuesday.
But, to make it up, I hope I could garner enough of a following for my potential, "Disenfranchised Ridazz" ride.
Not too fast to kill the slow people, not too slow to cause a mutiny amongst the "Covenant Elite" ridazz.

insanely beautiful riding last night my friends. feels pretty sweet to be at work today after 2 hours of sleep. The first 40 miles of the ride was very fast almost regular wolfpack pace with only 2 stops...
Roadblocks 7hr 30 mins includes breaks, Coles 5hr 15 minutes is actual rolling time

this next year of Wolfpack we're gonna step it up a little and reduce the stops. god damn I love this fucking ride... the feeling of pushing to the limit just to get into the front pack's draft.... finally getting there and just getting lost in that wheel trying not to get dropped into oblivion

I could barely keep my eyes open the whole day, almost couldn't drive home it was that bad. Next time, no work the next day.
