RIDE ARC Sept '08

Thread started by

woot woot. i am sooo glad that it is this weekend. i'm kind of bored with the "fun" rides and all the drunken idiots they attract.
this ride arc is titled "revisiting history/captured in tones: black history in los angeles"
i may not be black, but that's even more reason to go and learn!
this is tomorrow night. i should have my new bike by then- yippee!
who's goin??
says there's only a few "small" hills but i bet they're lying. i'm ready for some education and exercise.
are you?!!
reply
okay edit: "fun" rides--- most of the rides really are fun, but i've been turned off lately by the amount of inconsiderate bastards that turn up drunk off their asses, trying to show off by whistling at girls walking by, swerving their bikes into others, being dicks etc- not cool. i know it's kind of to be expected, but it gets old.

SWEEEET. I'm there.
Here's the info just in case:
Revisiting History/Captured in Tones:
Black History in Los Angeles [encore]
Ride-Arc for September 5th, 2008. 9:30 pm. San Vicente + Pico + Venice.
We're revisiting the Black History in Los Angeles ride. Edited and revised route like an encore performance of your favourite blues musician, fresh from a re-breaking of the heart. For those of you relatively new to the storied history of Blacks in Los Angeles, this will be a great experience complete with what is perhaps the best urban planning for a community in the country and finishing up with an everyone's-invited late night throw down of Waffles and Chicken at Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles.
**** THE MEETING PLACE FOR THIS RIDE IS AT THE PARKING LOT OF THE SHOPPING CENTER AT THE INTERSECTIONS OF SAN VICENTE, VENICE and PICO....****
Map: http://tinyurl.com/2gorya
The ride's route will end at Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles, were we hope you'll join with us for a late night snack.
One or two "small" "climbs" - but very minimal relatively speaking. 20 miles of suburban explorations.
This month's flyer will be up on the website soon. We hope: http://www.ridearc.org
Test ride will happen Thursday night, the ride may be trimmed by 1 or 2 miles, but not likely.

Agreed about "fun" rides.
(And try not to get spooked! I'm sure you'll be okay. We'll all look out for each other.)

This one might be worth checking out if I get off work too late.
As far as the party-rides go, I keep reiterating that most of the drunken idiots will go back into hibernation around October.
Apparently, 60 degree weather makes them weak and frail.

Knittens, or Alex Thompson, whatever you want to call yourself that's fine - but seriously, why do you go about bashing another ride?
RIDE-Arc has said NOTHING about SMCM. We don't say nor write "FUCK SMCM"... people can do what they want, attend whatever ride they wish to, and the decisions are theirs to make, so why do you go about bashing another ride without reason?
SMCM and RIDE-Arc are not, in any way, at conflict. RIDE-Arc starts after SMCM - long after, in fact. So what gives, man?

I have enjoyed every ride-arc that I have been on... It's fun to see new places.
It's a good ride to have in the mix, and the controversy surrounding it is very entertaining!!
SMCM + Something Else ride for me though, I have Friday nights reserved for having a few beers and hitting up some other very new chill locations on the West side :)

@ PC:
Personally, I've *never* told anyone to
not go to a Midnight Ridazz ride, nor have I ever written that people should not go to a ride. I've expressed my opinion on some rides about how I prefer other rides, but that is my personal opinion and has never been declared as the opinion that someone else should take up without their own experience at play. There is a difference between outright bashing a ride, unprovoked, and simply not preferring certain rides. To each their own. The hypocrisy you claim doesn't exist.

back to tomatoes, that was the funniest shit ever. I have not talked to tomatoes sober ever. But you can ride out with me at an easy pace. Im in Korea town. In a crowd you're much safer because the cars know they have witnesses to attempted manslaughter. And if everybody in the ride goes too fast we could still hang out at roscoes( alex's favorite restaurant, though he says northewoods inn is, though he never saw the naked pictures of chicks. on the wall in the bar.) Tomatoes it's good to hear from you. The guy hosting the vma's is totally fronting on tomatoes's style. I hope you do come. To intellectuals on bikes or atleast the appreciation of black culture in LA cuz theres lot's of it. you know where to email blackwomansidekick@hotmail 323 683 2281

I prefer Wilshire/Vermont too. I think we should plan a 9pm roll time encase of a flat. 9pm and roll a few minutes after?
User109.5.08 - 10:35 am

All the beef above is irrelevant, folks should be discussing the most efficient route to get to Ride Arc from SMCM.
Anyway, Vermont and Wilshire sounds good. That's about 12 miles from Santa Monica, should be a fun hustle to get over there.
Goddamn first fridays are exciting.

Scratch that, I guess I was looking at a previous Ride Arc - for Westsiders it's only about 10 miles... There's a huge parking lot at the San Vicente and Venice split, but you should really ride to the ride.
