dont worry we'll sneak in a lil somethin somethin, some of the music you'll hear never gets airplay and we'll try our best to have a good mix of everything, a lil bit of this a lil bit of that.
I've thought of a tribute to the smiths ride but didn't know what the interest would be like, I guess there's a few peeps that are into this so we should do it, I mentioned this when he played a few months back but no one was interested, but since he will be playing here in LA for a week we should ride to the show, even if we don't get tix I would rather kick it with you guys outside than to park the bike and see him. He's also playing in Tijuana and I know some of the San Diego Electric Warriors are going to that.

so stoked on making this trip...but left my bike in hollywood ( i live in venice) so no ride for me tonite!...........hating life as of right now..
have fun guys!
I'd like to thank all those who participated and organized this. Despite the many....uh....mishaps....I had a TOTAL blast. Riding through East LA was wonderful and I hope future rides are routed through there. (Also, I was a bit fascinated to see where the Gold Line Extension is going. But that's another topic.)
Longest Midnight Ride ever? (Time wise.) It took us nearly 5 hours to ride just over 20 miles. HA! Excellent.
I'd also like to send a giant middle finger to the group of BMX riders who showed up to Pershing Square first. Some of you may know who I'm talking about. They were doing wall rides before anyone else showed up and when the Rent A Cops confronted them about it, they began to needlessly taunt them, riding circles around them, calling them "fuckers" and "!@#$?s" and doing everything they can to piss them off.
Now, I'm the first to admit that picking on Rent A Cops is always fun, but seriously, dudes. You were acting like you were 5. And then, when the LAPD showed up to give us shit, you guys hid like little babies. Way to take responsibility for your actions.
But what sealed the deal for me was one of you fucks kicked that cone on Pomona Blvd in front of Joanna. She was lucky to only get a bump and she was lucky that sexy had a tandem. (At least I think that's who brought it...right?) Something much worse than what did happen could have happened. And what did you do? You hid from everyone and pretended nothing happened. Not even an apology.
Thanks for meeting the douche quota on this ride. We're all stoked.
UGH. OK NO MORE NEGATIVITY. Mariachi Plaza ruled. I've never been there, so THANK YOU!!!!!
Props to Johanna
She's ok
She was also one of the ride planners and spend hours getting this ride together along with EddieGopez, Randy and I
She completed the ride all the way to echo park! What a fucking trooper!
Just a couple things that seemed to crop up last night.
If you bring someone to a ride, and they are new to riding, or just arent the strongest rider, please keep an eye out for them. Sure it's everyone's responsibility to have no rider left behind, but if you bring someone that is struggling very hard to keep up, or just if you bring someone to their first ride in general, check up on em now and then, and if they call you and tell you to wait for them, fucking stop and wait!
Also, what was up with the king taco stop?
We were standing in line, suddenly word runs through telling us we're leaving, by the time I got back to my bike, and the other person I was locked to came out of the bathroom, everyone was pretty much out of there.
If there was some legitimate reason for running out of there so fast that people were struggling to race after the group on the way out (or like the 3 of us just said fuckit and went and got beer rather than chase a ride that was pretty much not following the route), that's fine, but if it was just because people were impatient with the line at the place, please, next time guys leave a minute or two for everyone to get their shit together before taking off (and let people know you're leaving).
and lastly, as always,
HOLD YOUR FUCKING LINE!
tricks are great and all, but PLEASE save em for the stops...
Danny,
Randy,
Gopez,
and all others who helped make this ride happen - MUCHOS GRACIAS!
Disney Music Hall parking lot was the shiznit! & Well worth the friggin climb. And props to all the Ridazz who stuck through it all the way to Echo Park, I love you guys!
Danny, could you send me that playlist you used last night for Maria? Thanks.
To the BMX'ers to whom it applies: Grow up. Hold your line. We're not impressed by knocking down other ridahs. I love watching you guys do tricks and stuff, but not when were riding in tight formation. Look out for each other. Were all together man. If you don't like it, make your own BMX ridez.
The ride definitely took us through some interesting areas, I especially like the unexpected Mariachi Band, but for myself some of the ride seemed to lack some "flow." Personally I felt there were several unnecessary stops that caused the ride to last way longer than I was willing to participate in.
It was surely a good ride and I had a great deal of fun, but I can admit that by 1-2am, I was getting a little tired and cranky.
Actually if you look at the map that we passed out at the start of the ride. There were only about three stops. All those other liquor store stops were the ridazz.
Thanks everyone for coming out it was epic, and there will be another one soon.
Sounds like this was a bad ass ride!
I couldn't do it. My ankle was a bit wrecked from getting taken out on Friday night. If there's another one, I'll be on it for sure!
Thanks a million to the wanksplat who suddenly stopped right in front of me (to look for his friends or some shit). If there had been ridazz on either side of me, or had I been a newb without avoidance skills, I would have hit you at full speed, we both would have been physically hurt, and you would have been the only one who deserved it.
Don't. Stop. Suddenly. When. You're. Riding. In. A. Group. K? Thx. Fckhd.
Also, add me to the list of those offering accolades to the BMX dipshits for doing their damndest to ruin a friendly ride. (They know who they are. If you ride a BMX bike on these rides and you're not a mouth-breathing fucktard, needless to say I'm not talking to or about you, so please keep coming, you're great, I love you, you have nice hair, etc.)
And lastly, big non-sarcastic thanks to Eddie/Randy/Danny/Joanna/Whoeverelsewasinvolved for a sweet route, theme, playlist, spoke cards, and douche-free afterparties at the top secret parking structure and the lake.
what made DSC and Echo Park special were the ridazz that made it that far.

Just wanted to say this was my first ride with you guys but it was tha great. I had a good time and met a few new peeps at the top of the parking lot. I agree with everyone about the BMX'rs who were way outta their element and outta line. All in all it was a good expierence and I'm looking forward to the next one...
Can we give PC a mother-fucking hallelujah. I was riding to the right when that dude thought it was a smart idea to stop in the middle of the road for whatever reason... I almost ate parked car, yum-yum.
Yeah I'm with Fuzz on the King Taco fiasco. WTF was that all about? We spend a half an hour or more waiting for a bike to be repaired when most of a us could have rode ahead for a mile or less and hung out at King Taco as was originally planned. Instead we get there and ditched people by leaving in less than five minutes. Really, what was wrong with having ridazz given the option to ride ahead? If I knew King Taco was so close, I would have rather ate and relaxed there. Instead I didn't eat till 3:00, in spite of getting the word that there were going to be taco stops on the ride.
|The BMXer problems are wearing on alot of people too. Does anyone know if these guys are the same guys that were on the clown ride? We didn't have any problems with them did we? And everyone loved them doing their tricks and stuff. Maybe we need to have a test for these guys before the ride ah? Tricky or no ridie.
The area we rode was way cool, I never rode that area and was a treat. When we were downtown I went ahead and grab my car and headed to Echo Park which where I thought everyone was heading. At that point I called it a night and got something to eat.
Thanks for all that put the ride together. I know it's a big effort to get everything working as planned and it's not easy working on the fly we problems poping up. Nice work on doing the spoke cards too.
Finally I hope Joanna is doing better. Things could have turned out worse.
Just one more thing. Before anybody gets too bummed out or discouraged about the negative things that are happening on our social rides, let me try to put the Douche Factor into perspective a little bit: I rode home solo from Santa Monica earlier tonight, along the coast, and the DF was higher than on the Big Ass Ride and the Rock En Espa帽ol Ride combined. Not just because I was there (ha ha, I thought of it before you did!) but because the streets were full of drunks and idiots weaving in their monster trucks, walking from bars to their cars right down the middle of the bike lane, riding their no-light-having bikes straight at me on the wrong side of the street, attempting to left-hook me at intersections, stepping out into the traffic lanes as though I weren't there...I could go on and on. I've already gone on and on.
It's sad but true: a depressingly large subset of the population has somehow managed to reach adulthood without acquiring the slightest fucking clue how to act. There will be days when you won't encounter a single one of them. Then there will be other days when every last one of them will decide to show up at your job, on your subway car, or at your bike ride--or so it will seem. And furthermore
(Get to the point, Russ)
Eh, I'm just saying don't start getting down on MR because dickheads show up from time to time. It's still an epically killerly awesometastic thing that is worth preserving.
P.S. I came up behind one of the idiots walking with his friend in the bike lane and shouted 'BIIIIIIKE LAAAAAAANE!" at the top of my voice while passing him at 20+ MPH so close that he could probably smell the Berry Blast on my breath. He jumped right into the person he was walking with. I LOLed like a madman, but I shouldn't have had to do it in the first place. Good times.
I don't think any of us are getting down about some shit that happens, shit happens.
I think it's more of looking for a solution to a small problem. We made an announcement at the beginning of the ride, and while I cannot know if it made a difference or not, it seemed to. Maybe on the next one, let's throw in "hold your line, this means no horseplay, whilst riding in the pack, act like you would driving on the freeway. You don't do donuts on the freeway during rush hour traffic... why do something similar during a group ride."
And/Or if you see someone doing something that they shouldnt (i.e. something that could endanger those around them), say something, it usually works (at least for a few minutes).
I had a a great time, apart from some of the douche bagginess discussed. Reminder, don't stop in the middle of the road suddenly, and if you must, call it out. I had two instances, one where I had to swerve and one where I had to slam the brakes.
If the primal desire to kick cones over cannot be kept under control, do try to avoid kicking them into the path of people rolling right behind you. Most importantly just be aware there are people behind you, and most likely to the left and right of you. We must move like the school of fish lest we be eaten by sharks. That will be my marine biology metaphor for the day.
To the people bummed by the sudden departure from King Taco; from what I saw it was a tuff call made in light of an aggravated security staff. They had very unpleasant faces, and were making aggressive hand gestures to get out. The road construction also complicated stopping to wait for those who needed to catch up, as there was only one lane, so we rolled for a little bit looking for a good place, and finally a lot of us just crammed onto the narrow side walk while some just went on ahead.
Back to a positive note. Nice spoke cards, and an interesting route through areas I had never really explored. The appearance of the mariachi band really brightened the mood, big props to organizers for that one. That stop at the top of parking structure was a beautiful view, nice choice. Great way to see the Disney Concert Hall, and a nice cool breeze rolling through hit the spot quite nicely. Great music selection all evening, and fun times chilling at the polluted waterside after everything settled down. I hope your head is feeling better Johanna, and I'm glad you were able to finnish the ride and keep a positive attitude in spite of the situation.
All in all, I had fun and it was a great conclusion to a long day of riding for me, with this being my third ride of the evening in addition to the riding between rides, and finally riding home.
We never seem to have problems with security until the tough guys show up and start name calling for no reason at all. You may not like security, and think that your "FTW" attitude is cute, but the reality is that if you just respect these guys and act friendly, they won't have any problems.
They're just trying to do their jobs, and unfortunately when a bunch of people storm their post for reasons unknown to them, they go on the offensive. Especially when people act like assholes towards them.
Wait a second, we left King Taco because the security guard was giving us a dirty look?!?!?!? There are laws in place that protect the public from shit like this. How bout next time standing up for ourselves?
Actually the security guards were some nice dudes. I talked to them and told them what was going on, they seemed cool as long as we let the cars go through.
As I recall, the security seemed fine with us. It was that we made so many stops already, and the majority wanted to "Ride ON". From where I was standing in the parking lot, I couldn't see anybody in line for food, or I would have made a stink about people waiting in line, and encourage that we wait for them.
After this ride, I don't see it being too big of a deal to lose a few people that have to stop for either a flat, to eat or drink. or use the bathroom. It always happen on most every ride. The fun in that, is trying to catch the ride after you lost it, I've had to do that plenty of times. Made new friends and aquitances that way, got phone numbers from people so I could find the location of the ride, and had fun doing it. Too much stopping and waiting kinda ,of ruined the fun of the momentum of the ride. I know from past experiences we where just trying to keep the ride together. I think we did keep it together, at the expense of the ride.
The two amazing facts about this is Kyber and I are sitting at home on our computers, and
It seems that everybody has a different experience of what happens on the ride, from where they are at, and the point of the ride. So remember, what might of happened with you, another person had a completely different experience, sounds like life. Ridazz imitate Life.
Sorry about misreading the intent of the security. That's just how it looked from the angle I was at, everything seemed fine, just got my bike parked, and then I turn around and a bunch of security is standing around as every body starts clearing out in a hurry.
Great ride everyone... Danny, thanks for taking the time and putting up the playlist. The music was awesome. The ride was awesome. The route was awesome.
Yeah... I was pissed off to hear that some other riders cause accidents and I'm glad to hear the injured are doing well.
The King Taco stop where the ride left did catch me off guard cause I was in line with a couple other ridazz and then someone said the ride was leaving. All good.
The top of the parking structure was amazing. Thanks again for the amazing ride. Thanks for taking the time on putting together a great playlist and for Dan hauling the trailer. Major props with the hills on Cesar Chavez. Man... he can haul ass downhill on that thing!
I posted some pics of the ride. Enjoy!! Queremos Rock numero dos!!
This was my first ride, it was a great exp I loved it and cant wait for the next one. Yeah there were some people who kinda messed it up but all in all I had a blast. Thank You all for letting me join with you in a great ride. Looking forward to the next one
