HELLO.
Do you remember the Yaysayers Bus? The 40-foot-long decommissioned city bus SKIDMARCUS bought? Some truly beautiful ideas sprang up for what we could do with it.
• Turn the streets of Los Angeles into a dance party. I mean, like, more so than we already do.
• Pick people up at bus stops & take them to their destinations. Give them the ride of their life. (More so than we already do ... zing!)
• Bring Los Angeles bike culture to other cities — show them how it's done. (More so ... oh, nevermind.)
• Visit other cities & learn from friends.
• Form a Midnight Ridazz Band and take it on the road.
• Best ice cream truck ever. OK, that was just my idea. But imagine!
SMASH Architecture backed up our dreams WITH DESIGNS. And a small group of dedicated beer-drinkers made steady progress on turning those designs into YAY. Some YAYs to date:
• Yaysayers, LLC, is a licensed organization with the State of California. Truth.
• The Yaysayers Bus has been gutted, a sub-floor (where your luggage goes) has been installed, a floor-floor (where your dancings go) has been installed, it has a new battery. It has a toilet. It has a trampoline, bean bags, & thirteen ounces of pure liquid adrenaline. Truth, up to but not including the trampoline.
• We've got a man named Val working on getting the bus insured.
• We've got drivers lined up.
• We've got trips lined up. Truth, truth, & ... truth.
But we've hit a final, big hurdle. The bus is being ornery, & it won't do as its told. We need to have a mechanic take a look at it. This is where you come in — where you can be a part of something bigger than bikes, bigger than Midnight Ridazz, bigger than Los Angeles. Show humanity what it means to dream big and mean it. We ask you this: Will you help us overcome this one last hurdle? Will you help us pay for the mechanic who will make Bus #219 run like a dream? Say yes!
YES to bikes. YES to buses. YES to dreaming. YES to doing. YES to YAY. TELL ME THAT YOU WANT TO DANCE.
Now I can't promise anything since I'm not currently working at a shop anymore so my tools are limited but I might be able to help. What year make and model is the bus? I'm assuming it's got a big fucking deisel.
It's gonna be fuckin' rad. I'm totally pumped, and thrilled, and nervous, like, on-a-date nervous, like, I LIKE THIS BUS TOO MUCH and I hope it works out okay, maybe it won't, but I really hope it does.
This is the bus on which I have the biggest crush:
Year: 1991
Make: GMC
Model: RTS
VIN: 1TULDT9A4LR827661
Other information: 7.4 Detroit diesel engine.
It's bus #219. Which is my birthday.
We really really need this done soon. if anyone's got leads, please forward the bus information to them, and have them call or e-mail me.

^^^ Nobody abuse that information or I will find you and I will take your teeth.
This bus project has come along way, baby. We're all so excited that it's coming together. We are going to have THE FUCKING COOLEST MOST AMAZING BUS EVAH...and it's all for ridazz.
make sure the insurance covers as much as possible. you can even get reimbursed for stuff on the bus should it get stolen, so make sure you ask the agent that helps you. if you need help, just ask and i'd be willing to try to shop around for insurance for it with friends of mine who still work at state farm.
Lookit, they installed speakers in the doors. I think those are turntables behind the driver. (AND LOOK AT THOSE CABINETS below the turntables, yow!)
And then there are huge cherries painted on it.
Dudes, this is what I'm saying. There are people. They have dreams. The dreams are beautiful, and that's wonderful. But dreams in & of themselves don't really affect me like this bus affects me.
The difference between the people who have dreams (Hope!) and the people who make me weep when I get up in the morning (Change! Progress!) are the people who dream and then do. This double cherry disco bus ... I'm a little emotional.
We're still hammering out the details of the bus mechanic. We're gonna DO THIS.
In the meantime, because it's just starting to look like a better and better idea, we've set up a PayPal account. Lots of people, in person and on this forum, have offered to help by donating money for things like repairs, insurance, registration — start-up costs that are the difference between dreaming and doing.
THANK YOU, everyone who's offered to help! Now, we help you help us ... help you. Help you dream, that is, and help us do. Here's the PayPal button!
Yeah that's a cool bus, but I would have gone with one that had a pop top. Kinda like the one in the first pic here, http://www.vwcampershop.com/westfalia
I always thought the 71s were a great year. It had dual port intake, real simple engine you could take out in an hour, and first year it had disc brakes.
Debut213, we love that people want to help. We're thrilled. You never know when someone's gonna pull some skill outta their ass we could use later, or now, and the more people who know about this the better.
Maybe they know a mechanic? Maybe they can call their mechanic friend and get him (or her!) in contact with us as soon as possible?
Or maybe they can donate money so we can hire a mechanic?
The Bus' Maiden Voyage to Salton Sea is now called off. Even if we were to get the bus running, the other variables involved are more complex than this unfortunately.
The structure of this touring bus is going to change, but the intent is not. We have been working on this bus with the intentions of bringing a new level of Eee Enn Jay Owe Why Emm Eee Enn Tee to Midnight Ridazz. THIS IS STILL TRUE.
