Ghost Bikes @ City Hall - a Call to Action

Enough is enough! Every few weeks we read of the brutal killing of one of our own at the hands of indifferent motorists. A ghost bike is chained up at some forlorn intersection. People read a few lines in the paper and say, "Figures, dumb kids riding their bikes in traffic," and life goes on.
I for one don't want to see another cyclist killed on my watch. We need to change our tactics in order to get the message out. Let's place those ghost bikes right at the feet of those in power - in front of City Hall! In addition, we should hold a silent vigil there as well. Look to the Women in Black or the mothers of the disappeared in Argentina and protest movements around the world. We can be the Cyclists in Black, wear skeleton masks or whatever. The point is to have our voices heard.
It doesn't matter whether the driver was going a little too fast or the cyclist didn't have the right lights or whatever. All of those things matter a little bit, but the big issue is that this city is toxic to cyclists in the same way that lead paint and cigarettes are toxic to your health. We have to get the message across.
