Yes, you are lucky. Even if one uses spandex and chamois butter these things can be hard to avoid. I think they're caused by hair follicles getting irritated in a moist environment.

i found the following helped:
-switching to boxer briefs
-changing underwear in the afternoon if im riding at night
-using chamois butter every day
-shaving my inner thighs (waxing might be even better?)
my theory is that the hair follicles are pulled up and down repetitively, while sweat and bacteria are worked into the hair shaft. eliminate the hair, eliminate the problem. also, the chamois butter causes the hair to stick to the thigh, so by trimming you are able to reduce the amount of force that is pulling on the hair. the boxer briefs also reduce friction and protect you from the dirty wet environment of your outer pants
thats my 2 cents.

do you really use chamois butter everytime you ride? I thought that stuff was just used for long distance riding.

are there any shops with that computer that measures your ass and tells what's the best saddle for you?

I know BPro bikes on Colorado Blvd in Eagle Rock have a gel pad you sit on that measures the width of your sit bones. Otherwise, KEEP YOUR JUNKYARD CLEAN!!! Wear clean shorts, and stand every few miles to allow for improved circulation. plus, a good set of clippers are a good investment. Short hair is much less subject to the push-pull associated with pedaling.

seriously i just use chamois butter and spandex on rides i consider long enough to warrant taking hydration/electrolytes and all that other long distance stuff into consideration.
on a slow moving social ride of only 20 miles i don't really worry about it.
on a fast training ride of 30 miles i'll be thinking about it
40 miles and up, i'm probably definitely gonna grease up cos i know that i'm gonna be hurting if i don't
on ALC doing 80 miles a day for a week i was probably greasing up twice a day
THAT SAID
sometimes i'll end up getting a random saddle sore just from riding around the neighborhood, which makes no sense, but hey,

lots of saddle sores have been happening on the 42 ride.
it is caused by dirtyness. too much sweat for too long.
ive used tiger balm, it works, but stains your chamois.
chamois butter is okay, the euro style chamois butter is better.
dznutz is the best ive used.
vapor rub also works, but ive never tried it. i think its along the same lines as the tiger balm, they both have menthol and camphor in them.
word.
