since we're here. i'm sore. is it smart to start training for the all city race, or should i rest some more? i'm ready to do it. i just don't wanna make anything worse.
well first off let me start by saying, training a week before anything is the dumbest thing you can do, and probably if you started training this week, you will be too sore to actually run the ACR on sunday.
it's not really crazy training as much as it is timing myself and trying to increase my stamina and speed a little.
i crashed on friday. direct hit to the head and both shoulders. it felt like a slight concussion. i was so close to passing out and was pretty out of it for a good while. slight head pain, inflamed shoulder and sore muscles but other than some road rash i seem cool.
i have not seen a doctor.

if you can get back on the bike do so as soon as possible. for the inflamed areas, all you can do is continue icing it, and get as much of it down. There may be some scar tissue but moving around will help wear some of that down.
get back on the bike asap, but you have to take it slow. limit yourself to two hard days, and everything else should be slow paced. take a hard day today or tomorrow to find any parts where you still may be hurt. if you want to increase your stamina, do a bit of cross training and go run. a week before an event is when you should be recovering to give your body some rest and tapering off your training regimen. Any work you do now that you havent been doing will probably negatively affect you come sunday

and i can back this up with my last ontario crit performance,
after 3 weeks of nothing, and trying to squeeze in some interval training the last week, i attacked too early and got shelled out within 15 minutes.
Most bizarre advice I've heard in a looong time. Get back on the bike after crashing and having a head injury three days ago????? wtf???? How much you charge for being a personal coach?

With a head injury you see a doctor asap. Just cause he didn't doesn't mean he's ready for riding a bike. Even after three days I would rather go see a doctor than climb on a bike. Sometimes you can do damage that isn't reversible. See a doctor.

Was looking a the psa, ijunes thanks for posting this (great vid), and came across this vid of a cyclist rear ending a parked car. Don't know if this was from the current tour de france (have they gone through Spain yet) but man... this guy hit it hard!
