I'm referring to the general bullshit I've been seeing for a while now. It's retarded how you people (again, I'm not speaking directly at you, BMFW) have decided to target Girl Power. It smacks of misogyny and I don't like it. This site is dominated by male voices, and you get a new chick on here who thinks differently from you guys and you target her. It's one of my failings, I admit - I let things irritate me too long without saying something, so I finally explode. Here is my explosion. I've been watching the attitude towards Girl Power for a while, and this ridiculous creation of a new Girl Power account and all of the really fucking stupid threads started with the new account was the straw the broke the proverbial camel's back.
I'm waiting for people to challenge me so I can back up my argument, because I can. As any good debater knows, research is important, and I can start citing shit when challenged. I'm just waiting for someone to bring it on.

Today, Reverend Mook is going to try playing an RIAA award (you know, those gold / platinum records artists hang on their walls), which I think is pretty brilliant.

Check it Dudes, a true story about a fat chick on a Huffy.
Years back when I was on a ride, I came across this fat girl who just ate shit
in the slimy gutter. She was a bit skinned up and her Huffy had thrown it's chain.
I stopped to see what was up as she was in tears. Spraying some water on her
abrasions and reinstalling her chain I assured her she would be ok. She thanked
me for stopping and said she would make it home ok as she did not live far.
A few years later at a coffee stop this hot chick rides up stops and approaches me
smiling. She says you probably don't remember me but a few years ago you stopped
and helped me out when I fell. She was right I just couldn't remember what she was
talking about. You don't recognise me because I've lost 50 lbs and have upgraded
my bike, showing off her lightweight rig. We exchanged numbers and dated.
So be nice as you never know

@Foldie Much of what was said was gender-based...so if it's true that it had nothing to do with her being female, then I don't know why responses to her often had quite a bit to do with it. Also, I don't believe for a second that it had nothing to do with her being female - as you have seen over and over on this forum, being female is noteworthy. Whether it was overtly intended or not, I don't know. But some of the worst offenders when it comes to sexism or racism are people who aren't overt and don't mean to be sexist or racist, but are. I'm commenting on the overall trend, on what the tone was, and on the blatant targeting of her.
We get threads on here that are the intelletual equivalent of scratching your ass and then sniffing your fingers, and people decide to gang up on her for her irrational logic?
Now that I'm citing things, I sort of dread dredging shit up...but what the fuck, I'm feeling feisty:
here is an example of a thread where it made no fucking sense to jump all over her. At all.

Like I said before everything I have written towards GP has been about her words and not that she is a fat chick on a huffy or a chick at all. I remember when people jumped all over snowcone in a thread, but no one defended him from male bashing.

@Foldie, I'm assuming he is compairing Girl Power to a fat chick, because I've seen numerous other references to her weight. And, aside from my specific point about Girl Power, all the fat chick comments on here are pretty retarded, generally. And there are a lot of them.

Im going to take a leap and just say, that at the time... I don't even think GP knew what the article she cited was talking about.... i think people jumped on the claims she made, but only a few made more of the insulting claims...
I think the bitch comments are out of line, and just the general "leave and never come back" stuff...
But I don't recall any of it being about gender... overall, I think Girl power is a pretty good sport about all of it. I think she should stay and keep posting if she wants... its kind of funny to read her comments, and i dont see anything she says as being harmful or offensive -- except to the pure nudist.

@md2 I think she is, too. And while I don't agree with some of what she says, I applaud her attempt to voice different opinions or try to start discussions on different topics. I mean, seriously. I don't think it can help being about gender. When there are comments by guys about weight and appearance sprinkled throughout, it's about gender. When the dynamics on this site are what they are, it's almost always about gender.

I agree there are stupid meaningless threads that are started all the time and there are some really good discussions on some threads too.
The problem is on these forums, like on all internet venues, anonymity and hiding behind the keyboard causes people to behave badly. I still see value here when there are good threads, but I do see when people start mixing sarcasm, bad jokes and a disregard for being human, it all goes to hell.
Dog piling on GP for being a girl is stupid, but debating her logic is not. When it all get mixed up in a single thread it is difficult to discern fact from fiction. All I can say is that there is a genuine debate with some and a punch line for other.

All very good points, and I agree. Like I said earlier, I am taking issue with what was a very apparent general trend to me. I don't doubt that there were people geniuinely debating her logic without being douchetards about it - I like to think I was one of those people (who knows, maybe someone would disagree). But it's blantantly obvious that people were intentionally talking shit to her, a lot.

Eh, I dunno. There have been more than one female voice that have combated her issues with MR and whathaveyou. Also...I'm not a pure nudist, nor do I personally take offense,*however* her misinterpretations or her INterpretations of MR (which gives me pause...hmmm) have been really nasty in my eyes.
She simply won't let everyone be. At first, folks were more than willing to let her do her thing, be as she is, do her thing, but she has to go in and attack people's "moral standards" based on how much clothing they are wearing...? And you know what? If she REALLY hated it? And thought it brought the bike community down as a whole (as she stated)? She didn't have to attack MR, the people she has been riding WITH for months now. Why would you attack your friends? You can
disagree with them on *any* issue in the world, but why in the name of anything would you want to call them names, etc etc?

@Foldie Also, I suspect that people took her less seriously and were more prone to attack her logic (perhaps in some cases, genuinely debate) because her log-in name is "Girl Power" and because she tended to have a very "girly" (for lack of a better word) perspective. I find myself having knee jerk reactions to "girly" things, and I think that was happening here.

And, y'know, I saw what you're getting at. Even though she personally attacked me for *no* reason, I saw no reason to attack her cuz...well, it's DUMB. And some of the shit people have been throwing have been way out of line. On the *other* hand...I think it started when people got tired of her consistent off-topic random stuff (which wasn't a big deal, ignore, move the fuck on, that's why you have a down arrow or mouse or whatever), and weird things that would come up ALL the time. I think if she'd stuck to that, and not attacked MR like she did on the Naked thread........no one would have cared.
