This letter was a response to my request that Midnight Ridazz be added to the Bicycle Club Page on LADOT's website.
Thanks for the request. Unfortunately we are not able to post a link to the Midnight Ridazz page primarily because many of the activities/rides listed on the page advocate less than desirable - and in some cases illegal - behavior associated with bicycling (see the Wednesday Night Drink Sum ride). While we appreciate the Ridazz efforts to promote and support bicycling culture and associated bicycle rides in the City, the City can't advocate for, nor support many of the activities promoted by the Ridazz website.

why even ask for a link from LADOT? they fucking hate midnight ridazz

i think their attitude could be better characterized as respectful disapproval. notwithstanding, LADOT's website should reflect the entire community, not these peoples' puritanical vision of what it should be. what bothers me the most is that there is no option for beginning cyclists on their website. MR has given me the courage to take the lane.
I would never have been able to cope with the stress of commuting if it werent for the fun group rides. i know lots of people who would love to get out of their cars and on to a bike if it werent for all the assholes out there. it takes a couple of close calls to scare you out of cycling, but it takes just one MR ride to make you a cyclist for life.

"i know lots of people who would love to get out of their cars and on to a bike if it werent for all the assholes out there. it takes a couple of close calls to scare you out of cycling, but it takes just one MR ride to make you a cyclist for life."
well i know a lot of people who would rather not go on MR rides because of the kook assholes that we see on the rides.
and yeah it does take a couple of close calls to scare you out of cycling and all my close calls were from drunkos on MR rides.
it can also take one MR ride to make you hate cyclists.
i think its safe to say that the majority of MR riders are not the most road law abiding people.
until we change the way people ride, MR is going to be considered a joke when it comes to legislation.
a small group of heads who are of age drinking and riding is a lot better than 400 drunks on bikes, half of which are minors.

barchopz, six pack monday, beer gears and queers. Stick your nose in this!
05.11.09 - 10:54 am
what you got against the U21?
05.11.09 - 10:58 am
well i think its funny that so many folks are bitching and whining about cycling laws and the way things are but they forget that they are under 21, getting smashed and riding their bikes.
u expect the cops to give cyclists a break when they see this shit all the time?

It is a bummer to see that the reputation of midnight ridazz has soured in many people's minds that I'm seeing around the internet in blogs and negative remarks...
And yeah my characterization of LADOT was harsh. They don't "hate" midnight ridazz.
drunks on bikes are a turn off for sure and rides that explicitly promote drinking and lawlessness in the ride titles and descriptions don't help.... a lot of rides are guilty of it. Not sure what the implications or the solutions are but getting all negative about it won't help I'm sure.

Tortoise Velocity there are many many people who were biking it before the party rides came out, and many of them no longer go on these rides because of peeps that became ridazz simply for the party. While I disagree with LADOT's exclusion of us, not just cuz it's petty, I do think if there was less emphasis on the partay, then we would have more clout, the way we ought to with our following and our numbers.

this is so funny to me. if anyone that's ever been on a WNDSRS ride knows that the one thing we are sure to advocate is safety on the road considering we are usually small groups. sure, we may stop for refreshments here and there but we try to stay below the radar to avoid unwanted attention. traffic laws especially, are the first to be pointed out. as of late weve riding a lot more than usuall. if anything we should consider changing the name to WEDNESDAY NIGHT DROP SUM RIDE SUM.RIDE ON!!!
