E (Kakihara) and I are going to London on the 26th! We'll be there for a full week and we're taking our bikes! We've gotten in contact with the locals and we're already slated to do an overnight 58 mile ride from London to Brighton on the south coast of England! We're also most likely meeting up with our very own meandmybluebike! What I was wondering is if anyone had any bike boxes lying around we can have? Also does anyone have experience packing two bikes into one box or at least affixing two boxes together? Continental let's us put two bikes together! Neat. We'll figure it all out but if anyone has hardlines on boxes let me know. Also if there are any other fellow Ridazz out there let me know! We plan on going to a lot of pubs at night. kthxbye!
Yeah, pretty much any bike shop will give you a bike box from their unpacked stock. Take the pedals off and turn your bars, of course. OH, and have fun in London!!!!
Cool thanks.. I was planning on going to some random bike shops on Saturday but we’ll see if I can stop by for a beer and bike boxes at O20 tomorrow during lunch.

Look for bike shops that carry Treks. The boxes that the high end bikes come in are pretty nice. They come with padding and a way to fasten the frames.
i've done this a lot...
it'll pack a lot tighter with the wheels off... ...i shipped my bike to europe twice and asia once... and it was all good except the forks were a bit bent closed...so you'll want to try to find something, (a bolt with a couple nuts, maybe?) to brace the forks in place of the hubs.. the home depot was pretty great for this project.., i actually packed the bike in their parking lot and went in and out to grab stuff as i figured out the process of packing...bring a razor knife and lotsa duct tape... i used the cheap foam tubular pipe insulators around the frame, then ziptied the frame to the cardboard to prevent shifting during transport. the cargo shakes a lot down there, and that will rub your paint right off given enough flight time... instead of the insulators, you could just use some wrap with clothing you plan to wear-thus saving space in your other luggage? oh, make sure you deflate the tires... not sure what the cabin pressures are in the cargo hold, but i was worried it'd fuck the tires... the first time i did this i forgot tools, and was pushing the box around on my skatboard till i got to a shop. ...then i got smart and i threw wrenches and a pump in my carryon, and when i got through customs, i was able to assemble and ride right out of the airport. nothing sweeter than riding your bike by all the suckers waiting on a cab...
thanks everyone! we got boxes and we packt them up real good. we're super excited to go now!!! we found out that since it's a continental flight operated by virgin atlantic we have to use virgin atlantic regulations for shipping. this means it's FREE now!!! that's pretty awesome.
sadly it looks like rain in the forecast for our overnighter to brighton... we're still doing it.
So I meant to report about the scene over there. They don't do much night riding and they don't do much group riding aside Critical Mass but it's starting to come around. There are a shit load of commuters in the daylight hours which is quite refreshing. Old dudes in suits and grannies in bright vests. So nice! Riding around the city was quite awesome and we learned to just ride, cut and weave through traffic really well. Making right turns was always a bit weird though. We went on one long group night ride the first night we got in. It was a 60 miler to Brighton. Sadly my legs cramped up about a 1/4 of the way through and we only made it halfway to Gatwick Airport. Still it was an awesome night ride through the countryside. We also went to this fixed gear trick session meeting thing. It was quite rad how they do it! They did foot down where the losers start to box in people with their bikes. They did a skid competition where you have to stop your bike in this circle and do a track stand. And they had a track stand competition where people do a track stand, then one hand, then no hands, then one foot, then no feet where everyone promptly fell. So yeah! That was pretty rad. I'll post some video of each of the three competitions now...
sadly no! well, i mean i don't even play yet. i got a mallet now though so watch out! we meant to go watch either brick lane or south but we never got around to it. we went to the East meet for drinks but we just stayed with our friends and didn't really talk to anyone. i made some friends from the brighton ride that i hung out with at that trick thing though. that was nice.

It was awesome as far as we went. So the story goes we had a non-stop flight, got off the plane, go to the hotel and 3 hours later went on the ride. I didn't stretch or drink much water on the plane (like Esther did) and my legs cramped up for the first time ever on a bike ride (happened after hockey as a kid a few times)... basically my legs were jetlagged. It was annoying. That first hill is even more annoying but it was quite fun on the way down! I can't imagine the 2nd hill. Fuck.
OH the red race car. It's art! The place all that shit is in is an old Brewery (Truman)converted to artist lofts! Familiar??? The red bus is a double decker converted into a Cafe of some sort.
