Long before my bike was stolen, I have been thinking about these locations. My reasons for concentrating on these two are that people mainly steal bikes for transport, drugs, and/or money. There are other reasons, but i feel it is easier to concentrate on the aforementioned motivating factors.
I talked to a guy who got his surfboard stolen then found it at a pawn shop. He had to file a police report before they would give it to him. It may have been a used sporting goods store.

A friend of mine won the bidding on a bike at "steal it back". When I search it, this comes up, http://www.propertyroom.com/ I think that was the site. Anyways he got a great deal.
