Heres the deal.
If the guy calls the cops and he can prove that those particular rims are his then they will confiscate them and return them to him (I've seen them do it before).
However that doesnt mean that he can prove that you actually stole them..... so they will most likely write the case up as "recovered Stolen Property" and let you go no ticket no case. (I know because i've seen it happen)
If you go back to the shop and they won't take them back then threaten to call the cops yourself and complain that the shop sold you hot wheels and won't make good.
Chances are they don't want any trouble. You'll get your money back and they guy who is claiming to own them can take it up with the shop.
If the shop does take them back and the real owner shows up chances are they will just give him back his wheels to, once again, avoid the cops.
If we want people to stop stealing our shit then we have to start holding the shops that sell bogus shit accountable.
I know that the local shop by my house (El Maestro) won't buy any used parts from you unless you have the original receipt. Anything less is just shady.

If the owner of the shop was legit, they would resell these dope ass popular rims at a price that isn't less than 75% off, unless they were broken to begin with. Mr Quick here and I feel the need to chime in on this....
If you did in fact purchase these (stolen) wheels, then you must expose the place where they were purchased. Justice must be served, whether the wheels were locked or not. They were my good friends wheels, and they were STOLEN. You may not have known that you purchased stolen goods, but you must help to find out who committing these rat crimes.
Think about how you would feel if someone took wheels from you. You would want to know who did it. So expose the truth and let everyone know where you purchased them. That way we can ask the store where they got them.
Don't be a douche. The guy whose wheels they belong to is a good guy and has been hosting a solid ride for over a year. He does not deserve to have his stuff jacked.

Once again, Stilline is the voice of reason, most of the rest of you are acting like little fucking babies.
If the op thought that the person who asked him about his wheels was credible, enough when he claimed rightful ownership of his wheels he is right to take it back to shop and force them to dae with it.
At the same time, it is also right to give them the benifit of the doubt, until he hears their story. They could also be victims on some level.
@ KIMS you have a lot of fucking nerve saying the would be victim deserved it if his wheels got jacked.
If you leave you own a bike, you have a chance of getting it stolen, no matter what protective measures have been taken.
People have lost bikes to B&Es, drawn guns, and being attacked by a gangs, even if they don't account for most bike thefts, it is ingorant and self-righteous to assume the alleged victim here was as fault in the theft of his own wheels.

How are the wheels unique? Is it a custom built?
Getting 1600 wheels for close to half is not unusual , even less if they're used. You bought carbon rims with broken spokes, that's scary. How can you break spokes without affecting the carbon rim? That's probably why you got the rims for cheap, it was in a crash. Or the thief had to cut through the spokes, but who would lock a wheel by the spokes?

am i saying that its super rad that he had his stuff stolen? no.
but hey, i think its pretty obvious that nice bikes/wheels whatever are a hot commodity right now and if u have 1600 dollar wheels, u should be to take extra measures in protecting that shit.
at the same time, why do i care about any of this?
someone may or may not have bought a stolen wheel.
this person may or may not go return the wheel.
but from the way it looks, i dont think he's going to post the name of the shop on this forum.

At the risk of sounding redundant, the logic in the OP is tragicomically flawed.
Reppin says he feels bad and doesn't support buying stolen goods. Well enough. He plans to take them back to the shop from which he bought them to try and get his money back. Sure, whatever.
But then you won't fess up about what shop it is, even though they're going to get found out anyway if you do take them back (as big of a fabrication as this may be). And you said you sympathized with our friend who you implied was also a victim, like you, in this situation, but you're not going to tell him or anybody else anything, either?
Bottom line, you just shot yourself in the foot and put yourself out on front street. Good luck trying to cover up those tracks.

I would suggest that one of the reason this thread got so bonkers is that you helped start it with such an inflammatory statement.
--------------------------
People are making a lot of assumptions about how and where this guy got the wheels based on their own Surelock Homez invsetigayshun skillz but most of you all are talking out of your asses.
Lets see if this guy takes the wheels back to the unnamed shop and if he communicates with the alleged victim about how he can recover his wheels, before making a bunch of stupid assumptions.
He claims he is doing this very soon, so it's not too much to ask people to chill the fuck out for a few days (instead of spewing a bunch of uninformed bullshit) to see how this plays out.

@REPPIN 213
I appreciate you starting this thread. I am the owner of those wheels who approached you last night. As I mentioned, my bicycle was stolen last November from Pico and Normandie. I believe those are the only wheels like it in LA. Ask any knowledgeable bike parts person, those hubs and rims are an extremely rare combination... hardly anyone even knows about Ambrosios, they came from special order from an importer, and to have them laced to phils I think it is safe to say they are the only set around.
Here is a photo of those wheels being built for me by Tony Z last Fall. (Nevermind the extra fake hand, we were at my friends house who works with costumes)
So listen man, it sounds like you are being legit, I don't see why you would start this thread unless you were trying to make good, and your story lines up with what you told me last night. Please reply to me.. I'm sure we can work out a way for you to get your money back, as you should, and for me to reclaim those wheels. Its all been told here before sad story.
We all slip from time to time.
All that needs to be said is that if Reppin213 is legit he will contact City Hobgoblin and tell him how to get his wheels back. That will tell us everything we need to know.
Other than that its all speculation. Let's see what happens this week.

...is what it says on pretty much every firework, right? I'm pretty sure it does. Although admittedly I don't usually look to close at fireworks, because I'm too busy lighting the fuse and then GETTING THE FUCK AWAY.

Holly crap!!! This bike wasn't even locked???? Damn!
So when do we come to the conclusion that Reppin213 is not legit?
It's very rare for peeps to stumble upon their shit thats been stolen. Would be real fucked if the owner doesn't get his shit back now.

Whew, I'm glad to know that this thread was about some NICE classic wheels with Phil hubs and box rims, not Vuelta cabron rims. I was getting worried that people were actually paying $$$ for cabron wheels like they really need it.
But seriously, what is all this about "if you didn't lock your shit up you deserve to get it stolen"? I use a cable to secure my wheels, it's just an added deterent, but it's not 100% secure. Even with u-locks if the person wants it enough they will have it. People get ganked all the time even when they take every precaution, it's just dumb freak luck, why blame the victim?

Is there ever a case where you could blaming the victim? What if they left their bike unlocked?

Well. It's been 10 days. No e-mail or replies from REPIN 213. I handled this as best I could and stated my case clearly. REPIN 213 you know I'm telling the truth in this matter. I don't know what else to say.
The conclusion is clear.
I find this all very disappointing.
