Hey guys, I'm brand new to the site and I was just wondering if I could get any and all info on the site and the community. I live in Redlands, where, as far as I know, there is no riding community like this one, but I'd like as much info as possible before I make the drive out to join a ride. What should I expect when joining a ride? What types of bikes are the most common for you guys? (fixed gear, single speed, multiple speed, etc...) What are spoke cards exactly? And just anything else you guys think I should know. Thanks!

Every ride is different. What are you looking for in a group ride? On the right there are many to choose from. I suggest trying out a traditional 2nd Friday of the month Ridazz ride. Then try Ride With No Name (3rd Fridays?). "PASSAGE" Ride on Weds I highly recommend. I hear good things about Mon night rehab. If you are more into riding fast and far there are other rides here that are not so advertised to choose from. I lead a Sunday early evening off-road style ride called Gloaming but it will be on hiatus on and off soon, but look for it.
Those are my suggestions in that order. Again, it all depends on what you are looking for in a ride.
Spoke cards are individualized mementos for attending rides that organizers sometimes make. Hopefully soon you'll have a shoebox full like a lot of us. See ya!

there is a lot you can expect, but I suggest showing up with no expectations- so that way no matter what the ride it will be an interesting experience.
any bike will do, people ride anything from geared triple decker talls to fixed gear minis with 6" wheels and drop bars. You can't really go wrong as long as it has wheels, brakes, and is pedal powered. Mechanical + physical ability to steer in a semi straight line is also usually preferred unless you go on a freak bike ride like Los Angelopes. Those guys are crazy I tell you. Watch out for the one named diaper.
hold your line through corners while in a group and never expect that a ride will go back to the start unless specifically stated or announced- but there are usually always people heading back to the start that you can ride with if you should find yourself ever wanting to return home

Thanks you guys! I'm not looking for anything in particular on a ride, it's just that my work schedule prohibits me from doing weekday rides, with the exception of the occasional friday evening. I'll check the rides out. One that stood out to me was the wolfpack, but I don't know if I'm ready for that yet haha. Is everyone supposed to go by a nickname?

Create a ride in Redlands. Post it up here. your ciafacespace.gov page and http://bikeredlands.blogspot.com/p/rides-and-events-calendar.html where you can go always get the current west texas intermediate price in the bottom right of the page.
Do you ever do the Red Asphalt ride?
