I didn't even bother. After four years of theatre school I required nearly a decade of deprogramming.

The only "universities" I ever applied to and got rejected from were the US Coast Guard Academy and Cal Poly SLO.
But, then again, I wasn't exactly "blue-ribbon" material either.

Don't get discouraged. Just know that any school can help you find out who you are.
I actually got accepted to UCLA and USC but even with scholarships and financial aid, couldn't afford to attend. Talk about being upset!
So I ended up going on a full ride to a small school in Colorado (my "safe pick"). I was so jaded at first, but the experiences I had there 100% shaped who I am today. I'm so thankful for that.

haha bicykiller, thats my dilemma. I was actually offered a full ride to Grinnell but they rejected me in the finalist stage.
That's what I am worried about. I doubt SMC has the power to shape me :P. It's just so...community. I need more lib arts :P

I love love LOVED it at Long Beach state, however if I could go back and do it all over again, I would have done the 2 years at a CC then transferred into UCLA. That way you save money AND get a degree from a better school.
But, I wouldn't trade my poly sci classes there for anything in the world. I'm thinking about going back after law school and getting a masters in poly sci, so I can defer my loans and hang out with Professor K again. dude is fuckin righteous. I was already really liberal when I started college, and I now owe my full blown godless commie status to that man. ohhh I miss college!!!!!!! and the nugget!! ahhh I feel another return to the LBC coming soon..

It totally has the power to shape you- if it weren't for Pierce, I wouldn't have ever found MR. It's all in how you look at it. Most people I know say the best teachers they had were all at CCs.

SMC hooked it up fat at the Photo department. They made me the Pro I am today, and the Valley to SMC bike commute 4 days a week didn't hurt either.

Glad someone was coo coo for CSULB! Man I had far more fun off campus myself. Too many jocks for my blood. The art department was ok, but still better action off campus. And don't even get me started on the lack of bike riders! Coming from Sacramento/Davis area was a bit of a shock to say the least.

about 6 years ago i got a rejection letter from the UCI MFA program.
Just as I was ripping the letter open and reading it, I was also listening to an answering machine message from a good friend who stopped talking to me for 6 months and was calling to patch things up.
it was pretty surreal and definitely put things in context.
My grades were never good enough to go straight to a fancy university which turned out to be better, because I really found myself at community college, met a lot of cool people, and saved a lot of money (which was hence blown on going to a private art school.).
Anyway,
don't let it fuck with you ego if you got rejected from a university.
universities as undergrad schools look good on paper, but to be honest, the education there is a bit overrated i think.
go to a good community college!

Well, I'm at least going to get this Math 105/College Algebra out of the way.
Seems the further you advance in these math classes, the more paper is wasted on the work for one problem.
In short, writing papers and doing things that Alex Thompson eats for snack-time stresses me to a point where I don't want to go any further.
However, I'm still weighing in the local CC's EMT-to-Paramedic program.
40 units of vocational credit in total and no crazy ass, MLA papers to be written.
Only thing that's stopping me right now is my worry of the "Ambulance Driver" certificate I have to get in addition.
I don't want to gain that, only to lose, say my "Tankers", or Motorcycle endorsement.
But, if I want to get on with county fire, many of the station commanders I've recently chatted with say this is a good way of ensuring an almost guaranteed spot as a San Bernardino Co. Firefighter trainee.

School is ridiculously expensive in this country. The program I got into at York University (in Toronto) was the most expensive I'd heard of. I was paying around $7000 a year. Most people I knew were paying around $4000 for their programs. When I heard what people pay to go to art school here I wondered why anyone would even bother.

Sucks even more when you pay all that money then no work is available.
Yeah, some people do things because they love it, but in reality, bills still got to be paid.

CityColleges hire faculty to teach. Universities hire faculty to do research. IMO going where teachers teach instead of doing research is more important for the first two years.

You. Me. Shues. Dirtbags. Soon. and User1, too.
I fucking loved Long Beach man. That school is really underrated education quality-wise. It gets top 3 in the west, and I think top 3 in the nation best value education.
Plus Jason Giambi was a Dirtbag!!!
You should be very proud of that school. It's a pretty awesome school.

I dropped out of high school in 1999.
Then I dropped out of photography school in 2001.
Ended up with a two year degree somehow in 2003
Went to another school and dropped out in 2005
got kicked out of school in 2006 for lack of attendance, even tho I paid.
Never thought about going back.
I just Google everything I have questions about now.

It's all about what we're naturally, driven to do I guess.
Back in high school, I took a few semesters worth of auto-classes and those were the best grades I got.
As far as all the academic disciplines, only when it excited me in some way.
Other than that, "where's a pillow???"
