I'm trying to find out the route of the River Ride. I guess with the name "River" it's safe to say it will mostly be the river trail?
I found
this map just now, but it still isn't a route map.
Do people regularly crash this? I really don't need or want all swag that goes with registering. I don't even want support.
reply
isn't it along the river?
here are the start times
100 mile- reg 6:30/ start 7:00
70 mile- reg 7:00/ start 7:45
50 mile- reg 7:00/ start 8:00
36 mile- reg 7:30/ start 8:30
10 mile- reg 10:00/ start 11:00
offtopic, the bikery is going to have a booth there to help fix bikes :)

I'm riding, but I'm not crashing.
It's my first century and my first ride like this. I want the whole experience of it.
They seem to be mysterious about the route, but they have the rest stops posted. I imagine it's a lot of bike path riding since they warn "some city streets" for the 70 and 100 milers.
If all goes well I'll be sporting my very own screenprinted jersey.

The century option gets you on the river path somewhere around manchester. you take the la river bike path to fletcher, navigate through a few miles of east la and then back onto the path.
if the century option is the same, the last 30 miles are a circuit loop around griffith.
once in long beach, there is a loop around the bike paths over there for the 70/100 milers.

just remember that traffic is open and this ride is not escorted by police. There are few signs posted along the route, and the biggest problem we had was nobody in the front fast pack knew where they were going.

There are more than "a few" signs posted along the ride's route. As a veteran volunteer L.A. River Ride route sign hanger who's posted them along the stretch between Boyle Heights and Vernon, we mount at least 15 of them going south between Mariachi Plaza and the L.A. River Bike Path entrance south of Atlantic Blvd, and the same amount on the northward return trip.

The route begins at the Autry Museum and gets on the L.A. River bikeway south to Fletcher. I'm not sure if they continue on the river path because of its undeveloped state or if they venture on surface streets through Elysian Valley but then it works its way through Lincoln Heights/Cypress Park to Boyle Heights, traveling south on Boyle Avenue to Olympic then over to Grande Vista into Vernon where it hangs a left on District Boulevard which crosses Atlantic and puts you on the river again for the rest of the way to Long Beach, where it goes from there is out of my jurisdiction.

You would "crash" the LACBC fundraiser? Wouldn't that be bikey blasphemy, or something?

so crash it, no one will give a rats ass. but why not just volunteer to help instead? they're even throwing an after ride party for the volunteers I hear. what Support? Swag? the t-shirts don't fit, the energy bars and goo taste like crap, but I've been going for the last 4 years just for the ride. its fun. And it gives me an excuse to ride to Long beach, which is not something I do very often.
