Steve Hymon of the LATimes Bottleneck Blog is running a weekly "Pothole of the Week" contest and your good friends Agent Orange and SoapBoxLA have both submitted winners.

I realize that the trend is to ride on the freeways now but if there are any of you out there who still ride the mean streets of LA, take a moment to send Steve Hymon your submissions for "Pothole of the Week."

The reward? Agent Orange's winning entry has already been repaired. At this rate...only 6500 miles to go! Woot!

 sunset and park is a good one. But really, narrowing down to a single hole is just so limiting... I can think of entire blocks that need work - Westbound Sunset between Highland and La Brea. Formosa between SM Blvd and Willoughby is nearly unrideable. You certainly can't ride either stretch in a straight line - you have to swerve back and forth to keep your wheel out of cracks or dodge the particularly nasty lumps, bumps, and holes.

 The problem with Sunset/Park hole is that it's RIGHT in the bike lane on a downhill. It requires you to either swerve into traffic, or dive down towards the sidewalk and then shoot back up into the bike lane; all at speed. Either way this confuses the hell out of drivers. I've had a few close calls with motorists because of this.

 There's this REALLY HORRIBLE pothole when you're exiting Superior in Highland Park... I have to go back and take a picture, it's pretty gnarly.

 Yes, they did. Tuesday, I think it was. I always thought of that as more of a "wave of asphalt" than a hole.

They also repaved a good stretch of Glendale Blvd along the lake where it was really torn up. I rode it last night; smooth as glass now!
