CRANK MOB Car Accident!

Did anyone see the accident last night on Beverly and Stanley??? Around 11:30 p.m last night. My cousin was hit by a douche in a Porsche...He was hurt very badly and sent to the hospital! This was my cousin's VERY FIRST RIDE! (He's alive and well...sort of.)
The driver basically gunned it as he saw us making a left onto The Grove Dr./Stanley He saw all of us approaching and stopped briefly, for some reason or other decided to accelerate on the gas, at about 40 MPH and hit my cousin, which sent him flying onto the pavement...Luckily some riders saw this coming, (or so I recall it this way) and had moved out the Porsches' way in the nick of time...Otherwise, the body-count would have been greater.
My boyfriend, myself, and one other rider gave our statements to the police...The driver is admitting NO FAULT, and may attempt to sue my cousin...
If anyone saw this last night and can give us a non-partisan statement, or any additional information at all, PLEASE, e-mail me. My address is orchid_la@yahoo.com
Thank You in Advance,
Salina

Good job on getting the non-partisan witness statement and looking for others.
I would recommend getting a bicycle attorney asap and not saying anything else to the police.
When I was injured by a car I spoke with Gary Brustin, an LA bicycle lawyer, but he advised me against getting an attorney as my claim would be for less than $10,000 and he would take a third of it.

I had some questions with the law, as I was hit while riding my bicycle in a crosswalk.
The gentleman at the 1-800 number at
http://www.bicycleattorney.com/
picked up the phone late in the evening on a weekend and helped me with my legal questions and was very helpful even though I wasn't going to hire him.
From the sounds of it your cousin could be considered at fault, as he made a left turn across traffic and was struck by a car that was proceeding in that lane. I am not saying that he was at fault, but this is why you want to get an attorney and you don't want to say anything else to the police or to the Porsche driver's insurance company, especially since the driver is being an asshole.
I would call Gary Brustin or the oregon 1-800 number as soon as possible.
Good luck and hopefully your cousin should be able to get something out of this to pay him for his pain and suffering. But I would advise at least talking with an attorney and finding more out from him. I was able to get paid for my injury without one, going through the car driver's insurance. There was no police report. And i knew the law before I spoke to the insurance company. And I had an excellent witness that wasn't related to me.
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice.
Was the driver tested for alcohol/drugs?

I heard that shithead as we made a left outta the Grove, I wish I could have seen more. I heard him step on the gas and after he saw all the riders pulling out of the Grove parking lot.
What a shithead that driver is!!!
Hope you cousin recovers and makes that guy pay!!!
Sue him for his porsche and house!!!

Sue yes, but he is guilty of a Felony hit and run. As well as deliberately using his vehicle as a deadly weapon. Call the LA District Attorney and have him charged with a Felony and attempted murder.
Throw the goddamn book at this bastard. Make this guy do time...then sue his ass.

I definitely second Greg's recommendation of calling Gary Brustin. He's currently handling my case against the woman who hit me, and everything's going very smoothly and according to plan.
The only thing that you need to do immediately is to take pictures of EVERYTHING. Any bruise, any damage to the bike. You'll need it documented.

I love you all. There's so many good people on these rides, and I'm sure you'll get the good advice (or already have) you need. I hope he feels better and everything gets better. Porshedouche will pay. :)

What SKD said.
Spare no efforts to see that the driver is charged and held fully accountable for his actions. Too often drivers see themselves as entitled, the cops often support these convoluted notions too. And if we let them, they'll get away with their assinine ideas.
