How many of you would have a small motor put on their V-frame bikes for under $300.00 that got 200 mpg and a top speed of 45 mph??? No license required and you can also pedal if you want the motor off. Let me know.

I fucking hate those things. even if they get 200mpg, a third of the fuel isn't burned, in terms of smog and air quality for those who pedal, they're worse than five hummers. If you get stuck behind one in traffic they stink like hell. Either get an electric bike or real motorcycle.

Sorry to say, this motor does not stink at all. It passes ALL California emission standards as well. You would love it and its quiet as all hell.

Again, sorry to say but I have people using it and it does NOT stink in anyway. You must know of the old engines.

Maybe put of the two of the people that still have V-Frames one might want it. What is a V-frame? There are only like three brands that ever released them Softride, Trek, MOTIV?

It's hard to tell if these engines are 2 stroke or 4. If it's a 2 stroke, then they are chocking polluting pigs that shouldn't see the light of day. If they are 4 strokes, then they could be viable if they pass pollution tests. Getting 200 mpg? If you lay off the throttle and putt at a constant 10-15 mph.
You may want to do your homework to see if this is legal or not if you're interested in buying this. I believe the CVC code is 20 mph. Over that and you got to license it as a moped or light motorcycle. I forgot some of the details, but I'm pretty certain on the 20 mph limit.
In the future I could see these being as clean as the cars are today. If they were, I would much rather see people riding these instead of driving 3-4,000 lbs of steel, plastic, rubber and glass.

there are a bunch of assholes in ojai with these contraptions in their bikes that are running old people off the bike path. these things are not cool. however, heres some
info on the only v frame bike. if you put a motor in that thing you deserve to be thrown in traffic.

not tryin to diss you personally but I cant stand these things especially when people ride the bike path with them. lazy fucks. and they do put out fumes at least the ones I've seen. get a car!

Call me a purist, but if you want a motorized bike, get a fucking motorcycle. Part of riding a bicycle is the fact that YOU are the motor. The only gas that should be involved with cycling at all is a fart, imo.

We've gone here before, yet no one ever answers the question. Wouldn't you rather see people riding motorized bikes than cars? This is assuming that the motorized bike is electric or gas powered and is as clean burning as a modern car.
Some people are not speed demons or even capable of riding 10 miles. This can be do to a variety of things. Medical condition, age, being out of shape, laziness, etc etc. Personally the more two travel I see, the better it is for all out there.

I would rather see people on something like this then driving cars, however they present certain issues. There is a guy I have seen twice in Santa Monica ridding a motor powered bike, and he appeared to have a transportation identity crisis. He was too slow to keep up with cars, but didn't feel like he belonged in the bike lane, so he tried to do both by hovering and weaving in and out of the bike lane constantly. That kind of behavior is annoying and dangerous, and since he tops out at about 18 mph I always end up passing him, and I go far left to make sure I am clear of his erratic driving.

a moped is a bike with a motor because you have to pedal it to get the engine started.
there was a guy on a dirtbike drafting me doing 80 on the 134 this morning going back to ojai.

Derringer Cycles has been doing this for a while, from scratch. I wish I had the $3,500 to drop on one.
There is a showroom on 3rd, near Fairfax, that has about 8 completed bikes of various color ways/styles.

Just another hunk of junk to throw onto my already-functional-as-hell, MTB.
I'd rather just save the $300 required to buy this, and put it towards the doc's for a Harley, or something with balls.

Seems like a worst of both worlds. You can't really go as fast or carry as much cargo as a car, but you lose the quiet simplicity and elegance of a bike. Looks like murder to carry up stairs, too.
Plus, most of L.A. is pretty flat. This thing would only be useful for hills.
Bikes and motorcycles and scooters work because they are refined, all attempts to add power to pedal bikes seem so darn kludgy.
