Hi Riders,

Im new to fixed gear im the dude on lil BMX bike with the huge spike that keeps up at LACM.
I got a fixed gear and got a origin 8 crankset but there is a nice sized gap between the crank arms and the bottom bracket, is that ok or should it have a spacers in there so the arms can be flush up against it? It makes a noise like it flexing type of sound when taking off, but stops after i get pedaling.

Please give me some knowledge on this.

 As long as it is on tight, and the chain ring and rear cog line up you should good.

 There are a couple of issues:

1. Is the chainline straight? (e.g. Is the rear cog in a straight line to your chainring, or does your chain run at an angle?) If the chainline is not straight, you need to fix that first, as an off chainline can cause all kinds of problems (like the chain coming off at a bad time).

1. Is the bottom bracket the right size for the crankset? Fixie cranks are not all the same, and can require anywhere from a 103-113mm bottom bracket. If you've got the Origin 8 track crankset http://harriscyclery.net/itemdetails.cfm?ID=2672, that requires a 103mm bottom bracket, whereas a lot of the other cranks on the market use a 107-110mm BB. A longer BB spindle would explain the gap.
